Director Joe Johnston Talks ‘Captain America’
The folks over at Boxoffice.com have a short interview with Joe Johnston, director of ‘Captain America.’ It looks like they are doing an origins story, which is the only way (to us) to re-introduce the character to the masses.
It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction. It’s the origin story of Captain America. It’s mostly period—there are modern, present-day bookends on it—but it’s basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America.
‘The First Avenger: Captain America’ is due in theaters next July.
Spider-Man 4 Gets an Official Release Date!
Well, the collective holding of breath is over! Variety magazine is reporting that the holy trinity of director Sam Raimi and stars Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are all on board to make Spider-Man 4 a reality, with a release date of May 6, 2011 being confirmed! Even better, the film will be released in both traditional theaters and Imax as well on the same day. Fantastic Four to get Film Overhaul
There was something in the water that said this might happen. After some tentative speculation, rumors of a relaunch of the Fantastic Four film series are confirmed. According to Variety, 20th Century Fox will re-boot the two-film series, and it’s unclear at this time if any of the actors and actresses who starred in the first two films, Ioan Gruffud, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, and Michael Chiklis specifically, will reprise their roles in the new series. Based on the announcement of the new creative talent behind the film, it is perhaps highly unlikely. Read more
Ant-Man Movie Still has Interest, at Least From Edgar Wright!
Edgar Wright has certainly made a name for himself by directing a fair share of films that appeal to certain genres, such as his work on Shaun of the Dead and the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which may help to explain his continued interest in working on a big screen adaptation of one of Marvel Comics’ earliest, and arguably more niche, comic book characters, Ant-Man. John Cena Responds To Captain America Movie Rumors
WWE superstar John Cena admitted to MTV’s Splash Page that the recent rumors surrounding his being cast to play Captain America are false. But, he’s not ruling out any chance he might have in playing the Marvel super hero.
Cena spoke with MTV in an exclusive interview while at an ice cream shop, mulling over the casting rumors. “Strictly a rumor,” said Cena in between bites of ice cream, but added with a smile, “If you guys are listening over at Marvel, that is a pretty cool rumor.” The wrestler went on to say that he is a very patriotic person and joked that his experience as a captain of his football team would make him a perfect fit for the role.
Thor Movie Release Date Changed Again
Marvel.com is showing that the release date for Marvel’s live action Thor movie has changed yet again. For the second time in as many weeks, Marvel Studios has changed the film’s release date. And for some, this should not come as a surprise.
Just last week, I reported that the Avengers film was to be pushed back to 2012, while the Thor movie was pushed back to 2011 and the Captain America movie was pushed back a couple months in 2011. The changes were done in an attempt to build up the anticipation for the first ever on-screen team up of Marvel’s greatest heroes. I also pointed out that since the release dates of the Thor movie was fairly close to the release date of Spider-Man 4 and The First Avenger: Captain America, Marvel would probably be moving the films again in order to rectify the scheduling overlap of the three films.
Thor, Captain America, And Avengers Movies Delayed
Marvel Studios has officially announced that the release dates for some of its upcoming self-produced feature films have been moved back to as far as 2012. As of now, Thor, a live action film about the famed Norse god of thunder, will hit theatres on June 17, 2011, eleven months after the film’s original release date.
Captain America’s big screen debut has been moved back two months. The First Avenger: Captain America is now scheduled for release on Jul 22, 2011. And in a move that is sure to anger quite a few fans, Marvel Studios has also pushed back the highly anticipated Avengers film. Those fans waiting for Marvel’s greatest superheroes to team up on the big screen for the first time must now wait another year. The Avengers movie is now scheduled for release on May 4, 2012.
