‘Green Lantern’ News: Jackie Earle Haley as Sinestro?

January 14, 2010 · Posted in Green Lantern movie · 1 Comment

More ‘Green Lantern’ news this week.  Last year, the rumors flew about Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) playing Sinestro in the film. Haley was first reported to be in the film, then that was shot down. He is.  He isn’t.  He is.  He isn’t.  It was like a couple of five year olds arguing.

Now comes Drew McWeeny at Hitfix, who is sticking his neck out regarding Haley:

“Jackie Earle Haley is the only choice for Sinestro by the studio.”

McWeeny also said that while the deal isn’t signed:

“I’m willing to say that Haley is the guy.”

Whether or not Haley is Sinestro shouldn’t be the question here.  The question should be: Why the heck is this film trying to tackle multiple villains?  HAS NO ONE LEARNED FROM ‘SPIDER-MAN 4′?  Less is more, studios.  You spread the film out and people walk away mumbling.

Green Lantern Movie Comes up from Down Under

Green, the American kind in this case, seems to have its weaknesses as well.  Following an unexpected bump in the strength of the Australian dollar versus the American dollar, The Hollywood Reporter has released news that the Ryan Reynolds-starring Green Lantern is moving its production out of the land down under in favor of a location with a better economic trend for Warner Bros., the studio producing the expected blockbuster. Green Lantern Movie Major Characters Revealed

September 20, 2009 · Posted in DC Comics, Green Lantern movie, Uncategorized · 1 Comment

With Ryan Reynolds squarely cast as the lead in the 2010 feature film Green Lantern, the next logical step comes in deciding what characters will be flanking this confident guardian of Earth.  A recently released casting call shows what major characters we can expect to see in the movie, and the biggest name, and perhaps least surprising, is that of Sinestro, Green Lantern’s long time nemesis.  Sinestro, a former Green Lantern himself, is undoubtedly Green Lantern’s biggest foe, who uses the power of yellow to combat the green rings wielded by Hal Jordan and company.  It will certainly take a very established actor who is comfortable with balancing arrogance and confidence to pull off the role of this iconic villain. Nicolas Cage Talks About Dropping Out of ‘Green Hornet’

September 16, 2009 · Posted in Green Lantern movie · Comment

A few days after exiting talks to be the villain in ‘Green Hornet’, Nicolas Cage has gone public with his reasoning.  According to the Canadian Press, Cage cited creative differences with actor Seth Rogen and director Michel Gondry.

“‘The Green Hornet’ was something that I wanted to do, I think Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character,’ said Cage.”

Cage wanted the character to have ’some humanity’, but didn’t think there was enough time to develop the part.

Sounds like a typical Hollywood power play.  Cage didn’t like the arc of the character and he wanted the script changed.  Of course, seeing that they’re SHOOTING the film right now, Cage probably should have gotten script changes done months ago.

We still think this is a win for “Green Hornet” fans.  Cage will go on to other comic book roles, and “Hornet” will pick up an authentic bad guy in Christoph Waltz of “Inglorious Basterds.”

Fantastic Four to get Film Overhaul

There was something in the water that said this might happen.  After some tentative speculation, rumors of a relaunch of the Fantastic Four film series are confirmed.  According to Variety, 20th Century Fox will re-boot the two-film series, and it’s unclear at this time if any of the actors and actresses who starred in the first two films, Ioan Gruffud, Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, and Michael Chiklis specifically, will reprise their roles in the new series.  Based on the announcement of the new creative talent behind the film, it is perhaps highly unlikely. Ryan Reynolds Gets The Green Light As Green Lantern

According to Variety, Ryan Reynolds has landed the coveted role of DC Comics’ Green Lantern. Previous reports had Reynolds competing for the role against a former boy band member and one of the stars from The Hangover.

Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to comic book movies, but the Green Lantern movie looks to be his biggest role yet. Interestingly enough, Ryan Reynolds’ previous comic book roles have all involved characters from DC Comics competitor Marvel Comics. Reynolds played the role of Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity, and he also played the role of Deadpool in the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie.

More on Green Lantern: Is the Hal Jordan Role Down To Three?

July 10, 2009 · Posted in Green Lantern movie · 2 Comments

Looks like we’ll find out who will play Hal Jordan in the ‘Green Lantern’ film very soon.  The Hollywood Reporter says the role is down to three finalists: Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Timberlake.  All three went through two rounds of screen tests, according to THR.

The main reason a decision should come soon is that the holding deal Warner Brothers had on the actors expired Monday.  That expiration allows the actors to accept other roles (though all three of them would be nuts to take something before finding out their status on this film). Read more
