Three More Are Cast For ‘John Carter of Mars’
With production scheduled to begin early next year, ‘John Carter of Mars’ appears to be getting all of its ducks in a row. Samantha Morton, Polly Walker and Dominic West have joined the cast, according to THR.
‘John Carter’ centers on a Civil War veteran that dies and is mysteriously taken to Mars. There, he takes a prominent role in a battle of Humanoids and Aliens. The film is being adapted from the Edgar Rice Burroughs books, with Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) in the title role.
Morton will play Sola, the Tars Tarkas (played by Willem Dafoe). Walker plays Sarkoja, an evil Thark, and West will play Sab Than, a prince that wants to rule Mars.
Thomas Haden Church Cast in ‘John Carter of Mars’?
Over the weekend, word broke that Taylor Kitsch (X-Men: Wolverine, Friday Night Lights) landed the coveted title role in ‘John Carter of Mars.’ Now it looks like ‘Spider-Man 3′ actor Thomas Haden Church could end up in the film as well.
In an interview with Reel Talk, Haden Church said:
I’m probably going to do a huge science fiction drama at Disney called John Carter of Mars in the spring and that’s a very dramatic role
The actor didn’t specify which character he would play.
‘John Carter of Mars’ centers on a former Civil War veteran that dies and is mysteriously taken to Mars. On Mars, he takes a prominent role in a battle of Humanoids and Aliens. The film is scheduled to begin production early 2010.
Taylor Kitsch to Star in ‘John Carter of Mars’
Taylor Kitsch’s career keeps rocketing up and up. This time, it looks like he’s headed to Mars.
According to THR, Kitsch has landed the title role in ‘John Carter of Mars’, which is based off the Edgar Rice Burroughs book. The Canadian actor, who played Gambit in the recent ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, will reunite with another fellow ‘Wolverine’ cast member: Lynn Collins.

Andrew Stanton (WALL-E) of Pixar will direct. There is talk of a possible trilogy, but that has not been confirmed.
