Spider-Man 4: No More! Raimi and Maguire Out!
And things seemed to be working themselves out. News today that hit harder than a punch from Venom, the planned follow-up to Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man 4, will NOT in fact be made, not with the current director, Sam Raimi, or franchise anchor Toby Maguire. Multiple news sources began reporting that Raimi, who had been in disputes with the forces at Sony over the creative direction of the series going back to the last film, walked away from the project. Pressure to meet a 2012 release deadline have been said to be a factor in the decision for Raimi’s split as well, especially with tension over the script. That’s not the only big news that Sony laid out concerning the wall-crawler! Read more
Spider-Man 4 Clashes Lead to Pushed Back Release!
It appears that the battles Spider-Man gets involved in don’t just happen on the big screen! Originally slated for a May 6, 2011 release Spider-Man 4 is now in limbo due to some very intense creative differences. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Sam Raimi is at odds with Sony over who to choose as the main villain in the upcoming and highly-anticipated release of the multiple-blockbuster franchise. Differences between the two were originally rumored back in December, but Sony denied the rumors, saying that script tweaking was a natural process in the creation of a film. Sony has wanted the villain of the film to be female burglar The Black Cat, to not only serve as an antagonist in addition to another villain, but to help with a romantic sub-plot. Read more

Bruce Campbell To Play Large Role in Spider-Man 4?
Bruce Campbell has been no stranger to the ‘Spider-Man’ film trilogy. He’s had small parts in each of the films–a ring announcer, a theater usher, and a restaurant host. For the 4th installment of the franchise, however, Campbell might have a much larger role.
Accesshollywood is reporting that Campbell has a ‘major part’ in the upcoming film. Campbell also told the site that the film is scheduled to begin filming January 2010 (new news as well). The film is due to hit theaters in May 2011.
The villains for “Spider-Man 4″ haven’t been announced, but there is some speculation that Mysterio could be the main bad guy. Would Campbell be the guy for that role? We’ll find out soon.
World of Warcraft Film to be Directed by Sam Raimi
In addition to his duties with the Spider-Man film franchise, director Sam Raimi has been named as the leader of the big-screen adaptation of the massively popular World of Warcraft online game. A live-action version of the multiplayer game, where participants can take on the guise of an orc, dwarf, human or other creature. The film, produced in conjunction with Raimi’s Atlas Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, will be fashioned in a way that follows a quest, in the hopes that this will lead to a film franchise and multiple sequels. Gary Ross to Rewrite ‘Spider-Man 4′
Gary Ross, who directed ‘Seabiscuit’, will rewrite the script for ‘Spider-Man 4′, according to Variety. The deal reunites Ross with star Tobey Maguire, who worked together on both ‘Seabiscuit’ and ‘Pleasantville.’
A couple of interesting points on this news. First, it appears Ross is rewriting the script so he can direct a Lance Armstrong movie. Not exactly the inspiration the fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise needs.
Secondly, this script is on it’s THIRD screenwriter. The original was written by James Vanderbilt. It was then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire. Multiple writers doing rewrites usually equates to crap.
Consider our expectations lowered.
Spider-Man 4: Bring on the Big Bad Villains!
Now that Spider-Man 4 is a go and the main actors seem to be getting on board, the next logical step is to announce/leak/identify/speculate on who the villain or villains may be for this next installment of Peter Parker’s growing role as the hero he’s striving to become. Below are some logical, and in some cases, wishful theories on who might be stepping up to the plate to fill the boots and shoes of villains past such as the Green Goblin and Sandman. Read more
Kirsten Dunst On Board for ‘Spider-Man 4, Kingpin the new villain?
She’s in. She’s out. It seems as if Kirsten Dunst’s status for ‘Spider-Man 4′ changes on a weekly basis. Until now.
According to the NY Post, Dunst is ‘definitely’ on board for the fourth installment of the franchise. This confirmation comes from producer Todd Black, although the Post didn’t use direct quotes. Call us skeptical.
Black also shed light on a possible villain for the upcoming film:
“We’re just coming up with who the villain’s going to be now. We’ll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it’ll be a big part of New York.”
The Post is thinking it’s the Kingpin, but we’re not so sure. More on that later.
