Taylor Swift: Not so “Super” a Girl Anymore

Helen Slater can rest easy.  DC Comics, thanks to Scotland’s Sunday Mail newspaper, has let us all know that the prospects of a Supergirl movie starring country/pop singing sensation and mega-star Taylor Swift are utterly false.  Many sites and publications, including this one, reported the rumor when it originally appeared just a couple of weeks ago.  It seems now that those plans are certainly a moot point!  Swift is set to star in her first feature-length role in this February’s Valentine’s Day.   Read more

Supergirl to be Played by Superstar Taylor Swift?

With comic book movies hotter than ever, casting for various film projects has been rampant and swift.  In the case of some very recent news about a Supergirl remake, swift is definitely the appropriate word!  Twenty-year old country music superstar Taylor Swift is reported to be the frontrunner for the lead role as Superman’s Kryptonian cousin Kara Zor-El, who possesses many of the same powers as him in her guise as Supergirl.   Read more

Comic Book Previews for the Week of September 23rd, 2009

The days of summer are slowly waning, soon we’ll break out sweaters and jackets, and pumpkins, hopefully not of the bomb variety, will pop up everywhere.  That doesn’t mean we have to slow down our reading of comics, especially THIS week!!  Marvel brings the long-awaited, much-ballyhooed, debut of the new Spider-Woman solo series is HERE!!  Spider-Woman #1 arrives, courtesy of power team Bendis and Maleev.  What will await Jessica Drew as she makes her way in a savage new world?  Dark Reign: The List takes aim at the X-Men this week, and also look for the one-shot Dark Reign: Made Men, which will focus on the lesser villains of Marvel and how Osborn’s world has affected them.  Amazing Spider-Man #606 brings old flame/nemesis/ally The Black Cat back into Spidey’s life, and look for Ms. Marvel #45 as the battle between the original and current Ms. Marvel reaches its climax!   Read more

Supergirl Annual #1 a Mixed Bag

DC’s Supergirl has seen quite a resurgence over the past several months, due in no small part to new writing talent and a creative direction that has made much use of the New Krypton storyline and the interesting addition of the ever-emerging and intriguing character of Superwoman.  With this forward momentum present, DC released this week the first annual of Supergirl.  With it, two key stories are presented, one being the origin and development of Superwoman and the other focusing on Supergirl’s new secret identity as Linda Lang.  While there are two distinct stories here, only one emerges as a clear and distinct narrative. Before you hit the beach, the mountains or some other locale for the Labor Day holiday, don’t forget to swing by your local comic book shop and pick up this week’s new releases!  Image Comics continues to serve up plenty for fans of their runaway hit series Chew.  Issue four bows this week, along with reprints of the first three issues!  This is your chance to catch up on the adventures of Detective Tony Chu all in one week!  Pete Wentz, frontman for the band Fall Out Boy, sees his co-creation debut this week with the first issue of Fall Out Toy Works, the first in a five issue limited series!  Mice Templar: Destiny #3 also lands in stores this week, giving fans of Image even more to be excited about! Comic Book Previews the Week of August 19th, 2009

Another Marvel character hits a milestone issue this week!  After joining the 600 club this summer, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Spider-Man will welcome Daredevil into the multiple-hundreds club when Daredevil #500 bows this Wednesday.  Lady Bullseye and Kingpin will continue to make Matt Murdock’s life complicated as Ed Brubaker crafts this tale, with another creative team set to pick up after this issue.  Joining Luke Cage, the Punisher goes dark with Punisher Noir #1, a tale set in the 1920’s with mobsters aplenty!  Look for a very Rogue-centric issue of X-Men Legacy #227, as she struggles with the burden of carrying the mind and power of a god! The American flag is used on many a comic book cover. Earlier this week, Comicbook.com selected our choices for the Top 10 Most Patriotic Comic Book Covers. Many of the covers we selected included an American flag in their design. For this Fourth of July, Comicbook.com decided to focus exclusively on covers that included the American flag in their design, and we selected our Top 10 American Flag Comic Book Covers. More Breaking News from the DC Comics HeroesCon Panel!

Just on the heels of major announcements from Marvel Comics, DC Comics held their first major panel of HeroesCon 2009 at 2PM.  Led by Ian Sattler, DC Senior Story Editor, talent such as Dustin Nguyen and Jamal Igle sat down to discuss goings on in the DC Universe for the next few months.

The discussion quickly kicked off with talk of the major changes to the Batman universe. The new ongoing series Batman:Streets of Gotham will focus on the changes in not only personnel of the Bat Family, but also the city of Gotham itself, just now recovering from the violent events of Battle for the Cowl.  Sattler said that SOG, with a Manhunter feature, will have much more of a focus on the day-to-day effects of living in this new Gotham City with a new Batman and Robin.
