Megan Fox as Catwoman in the Next Dark Knight Film?

August 26, 2009 · Posted in The Dark Knight · Comment

August is almost up, and I don’t think we’ve seen a crazy casting rumor regarding the next Dark Knight film just yet.  But don’t worry–the Sun is reporting that Megan Fox will be the next Catwoman.

Granted, the Sun is kinda like the overseas version of The National Enquirer, so you should probably take that rumor with a grain of salt.  Just like previous rumors of Eddie Murphy as the Riddler or Cher as Catwoman, we figure this Fox rumor will get disspelled–and soon.

Why?  Because Fox is quickly becoming the female version of NIcolas Cage.  Two Transformers films already, Jonah Hex is in the can, and she’s slated to star in Fathom.  As hot (looks and career-wise) as she is, she’s borderline-over exposing herself to a key demographic–the comic book fanboy.

Comic Book fans can turn on a character or an actor/actress in a heartbeat, and Fox would be no exception.  If they think they’ve seen enough of her, they’ll vote with their feet.  Something tells me that Fox’s agent/handler knows this.

Besides, we don’t think the rumor is true anyway.

Miley Cyrus as Batgirl in Dark Knight Sequel?!?

While this is perhaps one of those items that is best thrown into the “complete rumor” bin, apparently word has spread that teen sensation Miley Cyrus, most known for her breakout stardom as teen singer Hannah Montana, had a “stunning” audition for the role of costumed heroine Batgirl in the next Batman movie, a follow-up to The Dark Knight. Gary Oldman On the Next Batman: Oops! My Bad!

July 27, 2009 · Posted in Batman, The Dark Knight · Comment

Let the Comic-Con backtracking begin.  First up: Gary Oldman.  The ‘Dark Knight’ Commissioner dropped a bomb over the weekend, stating that the next Batman film would begin shooting next year–with a 2011 release.  Not so fast…

According to AICN, Oldman backtracked on his comment from Comic-Con, stating the studio (Warner Bros.) wants to do another film, but it might be 2 or 3 years.

I’m guessing that someone from Warner Bros. ripped Oldman’s agent a new one, and Oldman was forced to backtrack.  That or Christopher Nolan ripped Oldman a new one…

Oldman followed up with “You didn’t hear that from me,” Good news for all Batman fans.

The Dark Knight Storms Annual Saturn Awards

Adding more awards to an already impressive list, The Dark Knight lay claim to five more in last night’s Saturn Awards, the annual ceremony put on by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.  While the Academy Awards may have announced that the DC Comics’ hero’s portrayal played a part in their decision to expand the Best Picture category from five to ten nominees in the coming years, the Saturn Awards richly awarded The Dark Knight in several main categories. Dark Knight Oscar Snub Leads to Increase in Best Picture Nominees

While Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker may have garnered him a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at this years Academy Awards ceremony, that did little to assuage fans who were irate that the film The Dark Knight didn’t get nominated for Best Picture.   Read more

Top 10 Comic Book Movie Actors

Heath Ledger posthumously won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight. However, did Heath Ledger give the best performance of all time in a comic book movie?  Looking back at the various comic book movies over the years, we’ve developed our ranking of the best comic book movie actors ever.

Just to be clear however, before someone points out that we forgot about actors in The Road to Perdition or A History of Violence, we limited our selection to superhero based comic book movies.  Also, we feel we should note a couple of actors that just barely missed making our top 10.  In Hellboy, Ron Perlman took a character that previously seemed unimaginable in a movie and made him real.  If there is anyone that we feel really guilty about leaving off the top 10 list, then it is him.  We just couldn’t think of who else to bump off.

Hugh Jackman Addresses Comic Book Movie Controversy During The Oscars

As the star of the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, Hugh Jackman wasted no time in letting comic book fans know where he stood on the great Academy Awards comic book movie controversy. In Jackman’s opening number for the Academy Awards, he made several references to comic book movies.

After leaping aboard a batcycle, Hugh Jackman sang “How come comic book movies never get nominated? How can a billion dollars be unsophisticated? Everyone went to see The Dark Knight. What am I doing you think is not right? Is it my cape or my bullet-proof tights? Maybe, if I aged backwards.”

Heath Ledger Wins Oscar

February 22, 2009 · Posted in Movies, The Dark Knight · 1 Comment

As much as the Academy members irked comic book fans by not nominating The Dark Knight for Best Picture, Heath Ledger winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor was a beautifully redeeming moment for the Academy. Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight was absolute perfection, and to not have given him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor would have been simply criminal.

While public sympathy over Ledger’s tragic death might have helped Academy voters overcome their prejudice against comic book movies for the Best Supporting Actor category, there is no doubt that Ledger’s performance was completely deserving of an Oscar. To fully understand just how riveting Ledger’s turn as The Joker was, one needs to only consider that he took over a role that had previously been played by the great Jack Nicholson and did it better.
