Wolverine Sequel on the Way? According to Jackman, Yes!
In accepting an award for best action/adventure movie at this year’s Teen Choice Awards over the weekend, man of many hats Hugh Jackman, picking up the coveted surfboard for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, dropped big hints about the future of a sequel to the critically ravaged but financially successful summer film. X-Men Origins Wolverine DVD To Be Released September 15
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be released on Blu-ray Disc and as a special edition DVD with digital copy on September 15, 2009. The movie, which made over $175 Million at the box office, stars Hugh Jackman as everyone’s favorite mutant with razor-sharp claws. The Blue-Ray disc will feature “Live Lookup,” which is an interactive IMDB BD-Live technology.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine spans over 150 years and chronicles young James Logan and his tortured past, as he journeys from boy, to man, to mutant. The movie covers Logan’s conflicts with his half brother Victor Creed, who is better known as Sabretooth, his membership in Team X, his infamous adamantium rebirth and the total memory loss that ultimately fuels his angry quest.
No Point of Origin: X-Men Movies We Don’t Need
X-Men Origins: Wolverine kicked open the door to the summer movie season, raking in huge dollar amounts, but not necessarily rave critical reviews. With word of a Deadpool film in the supposed works, and an origin film of Magneto already in development, can it be safe that say that a wave of these origin films and spinoffs will follow?
Why A Deadpool Movie Is A Bad Idea
Now that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a certified box office hit, despite mixed critical reviews, talk has quickly moved to a spin-off film, using Deadpool as the central character and focus. Ryan Reynolds has reportedly already signed on to reprise his role of Wade Wilson, the merc with a mouth, from Wolverine.
There are several reasons why the words above should never exist in their current order. One primary reason is his use in the Wolverine film. Given the amount of hype surrounding his big screen debut, Deadpool is only on screen, in fully realized Ryan Reynolds form, for perhaps ten minutes total. As the mouthless killer at the end, he has a few more scenes, although the name Deadpool in this case is used as a term for the “pool” of mutant powers he now possesses as a killing machine.
Midnight Mass: Droves Come Out for Wolverine
Even as I type this, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is being proclaimed as the weekend’s box office champion, taking in at least $87 million dollars, far ahead of its closest competitors. While this is certainly not shocking to many, as this film was expected to do as much, a large number of people who helped to contribute to this number were viewers who took advantage of local theaters showing the film at midnight on May 1st.
Talking with several people at a Durham, North Carolina theater gave a pretty clear indication as to what these viewers were hoping to see, even at a late hour during the traditional work week, and not in the middle of summer, no less.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine Box Office Bonanza – The Curse Is Broken
X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been plagued by both pirates and swine flu. Many wondered in the movie might be cursed. Well, if there was a X-Men Origins: Wolverine curse, then the curse appears to have been lifted. On Friday, May 1, X-Men Origins: Wolverine had thirty-five million reasons to believe the film’s spell of bad luck is over.
By most estimates, X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened to a $35 million box office on Friday, boosted by strong midnight showings on Thursday night. While the opening day didn’t break any records, it was a very solid opening day in the face of swine flu concerns that might have led some in affected states to avoid crowded movie studios.

Wolverine’s Muddled Origin: A Review of X-Men Origins Wolverine
Buildup for X-Men Origins: Wolverine probably started with the first X-Men film, long before any official plans were announced a few years ago. After seeing Hugh Jackman’s convincing portrayal of the widely popular Marvel loner, who could blame people for wanting a film centered around this enigmatic figure with the adamantium claws? All the trailers promising appearances by several major and supporting characters in the X-Men universe has led up to May 1, 2009, Wolverine’s official release date. That being said, how does it perform?
Ryan Reynolds Discusses The Possiblity Of A Deadpool Spin-off
On the eve of the Wolverine movie’s debut in theatres, actor Ryan Reynolds talked with MTV News to discuss the possibility of a Deadpool movie. According to the star, if he had his way, the Deadpool movie would be an R-rated musical with very crude undertones.
Though Reynolds’ tongue is firmly in cheek with his analogy, when it comes to the Merc with a Mouth, the actor may be on to something. “You definitely have to break the fourth wall and you have to find a way to make that make sense, which is no small feat. So it would involve a really talented writer, an amazing visionary director and I think a great collaboration between everybody passionate about this character,” Reynolds told MTV.
Is X-Men Origins: Wolverine Cursed?
With a widely publicized pirating incident and a swine flu shutdown, many in the press are starting to wonder if the gods are conspiring against the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. Well, the recent trouble with a mutant pig flu is just one of a long line of incidents that seem to indicate that X-Men Origins: Wolverine might indeed be cursed. Just take a look at this list of things that have haunted the release of the film.
Legal Issues – Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind X-Men Origins: Wolverine, got into a little bit of a legal tussle with Warner Bros. It wasn’t over the Wolverine movie, but it was over another highly anticipated comic book movie known as The Watchmen. An unbelievable good trailer for The Watchmen movie had whipped fanboys into a frenzy, so when Twentieth Century Fox’s lawsuit against Warner Bros. threatened to delay the premiere date of The Watchmen, some comic book fans threatened to show their displeasure by boycotting Twentieth Century Fox and not supporting the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie.
