Justice League: Cry for Justice #1 Hits Hard!
Hal Jordan’s mad as hell, and he’s not going to take it anymore! So begins a new brand of justice in the DC universe and the first issue of the seven issue mini series Justice League: Cry for Justice. In this James Robinson penned series, a new team emerges to hit back at the community of villains, killers and general evil that has reared its collective head in recent months, causing the deaths of legendary heroes such as Batman and the Martian Manhunter.
Beginning with a showdown of sorts between the fabled Green Lantern and his colleagues in the Justice League, the stage is immediately set for the premise of this series: that the Justice League has become less about real justice and more about forming a community of heroes that are reactionary, rather than proactive and protective, especially where members of their own are concerned. Jordan storms off, determined to seek, in his mind, real justice on the collective evil in their world. Joining him without hesitation is long-time friend Green Arrow, who seconds Jordan’s feelings and thoughts, squarely leveled at Superman and Wonder Woman, arguably the two most prominent members of the Justice League. Comic Books Meet Urban Sensibility: The Work of God City
The Charlotte, North Carolina based collection of artists called God City has found success in carving out their own place in the art scene while remaining true to the characters and love of comics that drew many of them together in the first place. Self-described “fanboys at heart,” it’s safe to say that God City has made its reputation by using their collective talent to depict what they describe as urban, hip hop influenced graphic representations of super heroes and the comic book medium. The artists gathered at the recent Heroes Con, Wolly, John Hairston Jr. and Marcus Kiser, each presented a unique style that complimented the vision of the organization and each other’s work. Adding more awards to an already impressive list, The Dark Knight lay claim to five more in last night’s Saturn Awards, the annual ceremony put on by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. Batwoman Scores Big in Her Detective Comics Debut
Batwoman, one of DC Comic’s few openly gay/lesbian characters, has finally seen her day in the sun, or moon more appropriately. Taking off in this month’s Detective Comics #854, Kate Kane has fallen into the gifted hands of writer Greg Ruka, artist J.H. Williams III and colorist Dave Stewart. Together, these three craft a cracking good story for Batwoman as she makes the jump to the main stage of DC’s pages.
Her appearance in Detective Comics couldn’t be better. Right away her presence as a force to be reckoned with by the Gotham City underworld is made clear, as she forces a low-level crook to give her information about the arrival of the new leader of the religion of crime, a group that almost succeeded in ending Batwoman’s career in crimefighting not so very long ago. Even new Batman Dick Grayson makes an appearance here, and it’s safe to say that he doesn’t seem to mind the extra support in light of recent increased criminal activity. Read more

Heroes Con Costume Wearers Share Their Identities With Us!
As our coverage of Heroes Con 2009 draws to a close, it’s safe to say that we talked to a multitude of people this weekend. Some famous, some hoping to be famous, some just there for the festivities, and some hoping to show off hours of their own blood, sweat and spandex in the form of a costume. In chatting with several of these costumed convention attendees, between countless demands that they take pictures with other convention goers, we heard quite a bit about the reasons as to why they went all out for a few days in summer heat of Charlotte, North Carolina.
