Stan Lee and Boom! Studios Announce New Partnership!

Did you happen to catch those “Stan’s Back” ads that began creeping around the internet last week, going more and more viral as speculation behind its meaning grew?  Speculate no more!  In a big announcement, Lee’s POW! Entertainment and indie comic book company Boom! Studios will merge powers for the release of three new superhero titles, all featuring top name talent.  Editor-in-chief of Boom, Mark Waid, has been announced as one of the writers of one of these three new titles.  Waid has been a presence in comics for a long time, and his titles Irredeemable and Incorruptible have become big hits for Boom, so the partnership is destined to produce similar results. Happy Thanksgiving!  It’s a few days until pumpkin pie, stuffing and of course, turkey goodness descend upon the nation, so why not make a trip to your local comic book shop to stock up on reading for the food coma that will set in after the meal?  Looking at what DC has in store this week, it appears that it’s justice for all!  Justice League of America #39 gets things rolling, as the Blackest Night comes home to roost, with major villains such as Dr. Light back to “life” in this issue.  Justice League: Cry for Justice #5 continues the story of a random assortment of heroes seeking true justice, even as villain Prometheus appears to be in custody!  The dynamic writing duo of Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges bring the dramatic, current arc of the JSA to a close with Justice Society of America #33 hits stores, finally revealing the traitor behind the recent attacks on and destruction of this super team! Happy early Halloween, comic book readers!  Which super hero, villain, character will you be this year?  How much did you spend on your costume?  Hopefully not too much, as there’s comic book reading to be done!  So sit down with that bowl of candy (or apples if you’re that house on the street) that was meant for the kids and dig right in, as there are TONS of books on the way this week!  Marvel kicks things off with a double shot of The List, with both Wolverine and The Punisher getting one-shots in the style of the previous Dark Reign: The List one-shots.  What will be the fate of Frank Castle’s run as the one-man army against crime?  Can Wolverine stop Osborn’s plans for the Weapon Plus program?  Read and find out! Comic Book Previews for October 14th, 2009

Well avid readers, we’re freshly back from our trip to the Baltimore Comic-Con this past weekend, and boy are our pens tired!  Expect to see some great reports, pictures and interviews over the next week from the show, but first, of course, our comic book previews of hot books coming out this Wednesday!

Marvel brings us some items from the somthing old and something new categories this week, as Web of Spider-Man returns with issue one!  Kaine the spider-clone retuns in this issue, as well as a feature with Spider-Girl herself!  The something new this week comes with the return of Magneto, which will kick off a new story arc in Uncanny X-Men # 516, as the Nation X story begins!  Speaking of mutants, Deadpool hits us with Deadpool #900.  Boy, doesn’t the time…fly?  Does it matter what issue this is numbered?  It’s 104 pages of everything but the kitchen sink humor, action and a live chicken even! Comic Book Previews for September 30th, 2009

For those who get paid at the end of the month, this Wednesday is your lucky day!  Go green and save some gas by running to the back with your check and then head over to your local comic book shop to pick up this week’s latest and greatest new releases!  DC this week features an 80-page GIANT special titled Justice League of America, which shows the super team scattered throughout time and battling various foes from across times, locations and forms of combat.  Teen Titans reaches a milestone this week with issue #75, and be sure to jump aboard here, as new writer Felicia D. Henderson makes her mark on this DC staple.  Also look for Justice Society of America #31, as the traitor in the team’s midst stands revealed!  Superman #692 continues a new direction for the title, as the Science Police become more of a force! Comic Book Previews for the Week of September 23rd, 2009

The days of summer are slowly waning, soon we’ll break out sweaters and jackets, and pumpkins, hopefully not of the bomb variety, will pop up everywhere.  That doesn’t mean we have to slow down our reading of comics, especially THIS week!!  Marvel brings the long-awaited, much-ballyhooed, debut of the new Spider-Woman solo series is HERE!!  Spider-Woman #1 arrives, courtesy of power team Bendis and Maleev.  What will await Jessica Drew as she makes her way in a savage new world?  Dark Reign: The List takes aim at the X-Men this week, and also look for the one-shot Dark Reign: Made Men, which will focus on the lesser villains of Marvel and how Osborn’s world has affected them.  Amazing Spider-Man #606 brings old flame/nemesis/ally The Black Cat back into Spidey’s life, and look for Ms. Marvel #45 as the battle between the original and current Ms. Marvel reaches its climax!   Read more

Now that you’ve taken the Labor Day holiday to rest up and catch up on all those comics you keep meaning to get to during the regular work week, it’s time to get a fresh stack!  There’s plenty to pick up in stores this Thursday, and the adventure and spandex-covered heroes are happy to oblige!

 From Marvel this week, more pieces of Norman Osborn’s master plan for the world come into focus, as Dark Reign: The List begins with an Avengers one-shot.  Norman’s not happy with the way things are, and this new arc proves it!  Be sure to read Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Exodus #1 before reading The List!  Read more

The Muppet Show’s Pigs in Space Blasting Into Comic Book Form!

Comic book publisher Boom! Studios is announcing the release of another series based on its well-received title The Muppet Show.  Beginning in November, writer Roger Landgridge and artist Shelli Paroline will release The Muppet Show Comic Book #0: The Muppets Present…’Pigs in Space’.  This will join other books in the Muppet family such as Muppet Robin Hood and Muppet Peter Pan.   Read more

Before you hit the beach, the mountains or some other locale for the Labor Day holiday, don’t forget to swing by your local comic book shop and pick up this week’s new releases!  Image Comics continues to serve up plenty for fans of their runaway hit series Chew.  Issue four bows this week, along with reprints of the first three issues!  This is your chance to catch up on the adventures of Detective Tony Chu all in one week!  Pete Wentz, frontman for the band Fall Out Boy, sees his co-creation debut this week with the first issue of Fall Out Toy Works, the first in a five issue limited series!  Mice Templar: Destiny #3 also lands in stores this week, giving fans of Image even more to be excited about!
