The rumor that Megan Fox will play Catwoman in the next Dark Knight/Batman film has been shot down, but it got us thinking: who else would make a great Catwoman?  Here are 7 that we think could fill the role nicely. Read more

Megan Fox as Catwoman in the Next Dark Knight Film?

August 26, 2009 · Posted in The Dark Knight · Comment

August is almost up, and I don’t think we’ve seen a crazy casting rumor regarding the next Dark Knight film just yet.  But don’t worry–the Sun is reporting that Megan Fox will be the next Catwoman.

Granted, the Sun is kinda like the overseas version of The National Enquirer, so you should probably take that rumor with a grain of salt.  Just like previous rumors of Eddie Murphy as the Riddler or Cher as Catwoman, we figure this Fox rumor will get disspelled–and soon.

Why?  Because Fox is quickly becoming the female version of NIcolas Cage.  Two Transformers films already, Jonah Hex is in the can, and she’s slated to star in Fathom.  As hot (looks and career-wise) as she is, she’s borderline-over exposing herself to a key demographic–the comic book fanboy.

Comic Book fans can turn on a character or an actor/actress in a heartbeat, and Fox would be no exception.  If they think they’ve seen enough of her, they’ll vote with their feet.  Something tells me that Fox’s agent/handler knows this.

Besides, we don’t think the rumor is true anyway.

Gotham City Sirens a Slow Build

Batman’s death in the pages of both Batman and Final Crisis was a major shake-up in the Bat family and its collected titles.  With the cancellation of Birds of Prey, Nightwing and Robin, the expected relaunch and uncertain direction of the Batman universe was watched with anticipation, nerves and hope.  Now that the battle for the cowl has ended, and Dick Grayson, the original Robin, is wearing the bat symbol, the entire franchise has seen a title relaunch with several new series.  One of those to come out of the sweeping change has been Gotham City Sirens, a title focusing, so far, on Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and Catwoman, all three major female forces in the life of Batman and Bruce Wayne. Top Female Costumes From HeroesCon Comic Book Convention

There were a ton of great costumes at the recent HeroesCon comic book convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Here are some or our favorite female costumes from HeroesCon.  While the Bruce Wayne version of Batman might be dead, the Bat-ladies live on.  First up is Batgirl in a tattered bat skirt, followed by the Catwoman, in the costume popularized by Halle Berry in the Catwoman movie.

Battle for the Cowl: Who Will Be The Next Batman?

March 22, 2009 · Posted in Batman, Comic Book Deaths, DC Comics, Final Crisis · 1 Comment

Now that Battle for the Cowl #1 has hit the comic book shops and the subsequent tie-ins are certainly on their way, let the speculation as to who will inherit said cowl commence. If the first issue of this intriguing storyline has told us anything, it’s that the future of Gotham City is truly what’s at stake here. With Arkham freshly emptied by an (alive?) Black Mask, a desperate Bat-Family and a pretender to Batman’s name all working overtime, who, at the end, will be left standing to lead Gotham into, hopefully, a time of peace? Below, some odds on who it might be.

Catwoman: 250 to 1: Even though she has emerged as a champion, of sorts, for Gotham City in the recent past, and has become an intimate part of Bruce Wayne’s life, the disconnect in different parts of their moral codes keeps the good Ms. Kyle from ever really being able to inherit the cape and symbol. Will she still be an effective part of the extended Bat-Family after BFTC ends? Probably, but Batman, she’s not. Her interest in the East End mostly also may hinder this.

Holy Impact! Why Batman Today Owes TV’s Batman

March 6, 2009 · Posted in Batman, DC Comics, TV · 1 Comment

Quick, how many Batman related projects can you think of in five seconds? Do things such as The Dark Knight Strikes Back, Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan’s Batman films and a host of supporting characters come to mind? They are probably just the tip of the iceberg, and in many, perhaps surprising ways, a part of this is due to none other than Adam West.

Not Adam West on his own, but the three season, 120 episode high-camp TV series of the late 1960’s, starring West as the titular Batman. Comics as a whole were about a decade removed from the scare of Dr. Fredric Wertham’s alarmist book about the “dangers” of comic books, Seduction of the Innocent. Batman had slowly devolved over the course of the 1950’s and early 1960’s, mainly due to silly costumes, adventures in sci-fi, outer space and various other machinations, including the odd additions of Batwoman and Bat-Girl as heterosexual supports for the supposedly, according to Wertham, homosexual heroes.

It’s Not You, It’s Us: 10 Complicated Comic Book Romances

February 13, 2009 · Posted in Avengers, DC Comics, Green Lantern, Hulk, Marvel Comics, The Watchmen, X-Men · 1 Comment

After examining the wonderful and true love of my last article’s 10 comic book couples, it seems only fair, in these modern times with their new-fangled rules and codes, to examine 10 other relationships that are a bit more …shall we say, hard to sort out? These 10 couples are not known for taking the smooth and easy road to lover’s lane, and perhaps have even tried to kill or maim each other on the way. It’s been evident in their history that they may never get it sorted, but they’ll always be compelling.

1. Batman and Catwoman - In their alter egos of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, there has been recent development in an actual relationship, despite all of their history. Both characters pursued the other for years; Batman after her for her criminal history, Catwoman in pursuit of a conquest/ally to bring to her side. There was always an attraction between them, but with each having their own set of rules, neither was willing to cross to the other side. After Batman reveals his identity to her in “Hush”, a relationship now seems possible; will Bruce live to regret that decision, knowing the nature of Catwoman’s behavior, and with recent events in “Batman R.I.P”, how long will it last?
