Ho, ho, ho!!!  Presents for all the comic book readers out there (naughty or nice is in the eye of the beholder after all!) are in stores this Wednesday, and before you pack up and pack in for winter, plan a trip to the relatives or stuff your ears with cotton to avoid the noisy toys, here’s this week’s comic book previews!  DC brings some of its major titles this week, with Detective Comics #860 concluding the origin story of Batwoman, setting up a team-up with Batman in next month’s issue!  Wonder Woman #39 reveals the secret behind Wonder Woman’s amazing new power, and be sure to check out Gotham City Sirens #7 as Catwoman has to take the reins and save the other sirens from a powerful challenge!  Not to let the ladies have all the fun, Superman #695 brings Mon-El and his new public identity into the forefront, with Natasha Irons returning and the fate of Steele in the balance! Holy stocking stuffers!  We got so busy shopping for all the comic book fans out there that we almost forgot!  It’s time for a look at the major releases this week!  Sleigh bells are ringing over in the DC universe this week as the DC Holiday Special 2009 sees release.  Many major heroes are present for this special, heck even Deadman showed up!  These usually go quickly, so be sure to get your copy!  From a white Christmas, to a Black Alice.  Secret Six #16 sees magically dangerous Black Alice hoping to pledge the band of villains, but wait… aren’t there already six members?  It’s all eyes on Donna Troy in this week’s Titans #20, and of course, just in time for the Fearsome Five to continue their assault against the Titans! It’s a pretty big week this pre-Thanksgiving week, as many comic book events and series hit the shelves!  The action kicks off this week at Marvel, with some pretty big focus on the most famous wall-crawler in store.  In the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #612, creative team Mark Waid and Paul Azaceta bring Peter Parker one of his toughest challenges to date, as the storyline “The Gauntlet” begins here!  Witness the return of one of Spider-Man’s most classic foes as Electro storms into the forefront to lead the charge against Spidey!  Also this week, Dark Reign-The List: Amazing Spider-Man one-shot hits shelves.  Norman’s must personal vendetta comes to a head in this issue! Comic Book Previews for August 26th, 2009

The kids back in school this week aren’t the only ones starting a new term and a new direction, as this Wednesday gives us the highly anticipated debut of the Jonathan Hickman and Dale Eaglesham creative team behind The Fantastic Four with issue 570.  A new story arc also begins in Secret Warriors #7, as the Dark Avengers, Thunderbolts and Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors find themselves on a collision course, with Ares’ son the prize!  New Avengers #56 promises some shocking action, as the events of the previous issue unfold with several heroes having their power drained.  The Incredible Hulk #601 sees the return of the recurring title with a new world for Bruce Banner and company.  Dark X-Men: The Beginning wraps up with issue three, bringing to a close the origin of this deceptive, Emma Frost-led team. Deadlocke To Be Comic Book And Movie Based On Venomous

Dark Horse has announced that they will be partnering with 72 Productions to produce a Deadlocke comic book. Deadlocke will be a one-shot comic tied into Christopher Krovatin’s Venomous, which is a Simon & Schuster young adult novel.

72 Productions also has a Deadlocke feature film in the works. 72 Productions is run by Jen Chaiken and Sebastian Dungan

Deadlocke is a mixture of real life and young adult themes and escapist comic book fantasy. The comic book will tell the story of Locke Vinetti, who is a Manhattan teenager. Locke’s world is turned upside down when the dark alter ego who exists in his drawings threatens to take over his life.

Locke struggles to control his newfound strength and fights to keep from losing Renee, who is the darkly beautiful girl of his dreams. Eventually, Locke winds up in a brutal rooftop battle where the characters’ lives, and souls, hang in the balance.

Comic Book Previews the Week of August 19th, 2009

Another Marvel character hits a milestone issue this week!  After joining the 600 club this summer, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Spider-Man will welcome Daredevil into the multiple-hundreds club when Daredevil #500 bows this Wednesday.  Lady Bullseye and Kingpin will continue to make Matt Murdock’s life complicated as Ed Brubaker crafts this tale, with another creative team set to pick up after this issue.  Joining Luke Cage, the Punisher goes dark with Punisher Noir #1, a tale set in the 1920’s with mobsters aplenty!  Look for a very Rogue-centric issue of X-Men Legacy #227, as she struggles with the burden of carrying the mind and power of a god! Comic Book Previews for August 12, 2009

What could be causing part of the oppressive heat this summer, at least this Wednesday anyway?  Those SEVENTY candles on the top of Marvel’s cake, that’s what!  Happy birthday to the home of some of the most recognizable characters in pop culture today!  With that, Marvel has a big birthday bash planned, with several powerful new releases this week!

First up for the birthday boys and girls is Marvel Comics #1: 70th Anniversary Edition.  It starts here!  The original Human Torch, Ka-Zar, and Sub-Mariner are all here, brought to you in a stunning new edition by some amazing talent in the industry today!  That’s not all birthday fun!  The Marvel’s Project #1 debuts, with this Ed Brubaker penned tale kicking off the ultimate origin story of the Marvel universe!  Look also for the releases of Ultimate Comics Avengers #1 and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1.  Both of these titles will give us a post-Ultimatum look at the Ultimate universe.  Look also for the continuation of the powerful Dark Avengers/X-Men crossover, Utopia, in Uncanny X-Men #514.   Read more

Comic Book Releases for August 5th, 2009

August is here!  This first week of our eighth month has lots of comic book action and goodness, so hold on, here we go!

Marvel releases several big issues this week, with Captain America: Reborn #2 continuing the surprising events and twists from Captain America #600 and Reborn #1.  Ultimatum’s finale sees the release of two one shots, wrapping up the stories of the Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four in two separate Requiems.  Black Panther kicks off it’s second arc with issue seven, and expect an interesting run on the limited series Ghost Rider: Heavens Fire, which starts this week as well.  Luke Cage is given an interesting solo story in the creative Luke Cage Noir #1, which sees the hero back home in the Prohibition era!   Read more

New Aliens vs. Predator Series Announced by Dark Horse

Dark Horse Comics announced at Comic-Con 2009 that they will launch a new Aliens vs Predator miniseries titled Three World War.  ”I don’t want to give away too many specifics, but there are key threads from the newAliens and Predator books that are tied together in Three World War,” said editor Chris Warner to Comic Book Resources.  

The title was unveiled at Comic-Con, and the six issue mini will premier in January 2010 with writer John Arcudi taking the reins narratively and Rick Leonardi covering the artwork.  Arcudi will be a welcome part of the creative team on the series, as he has experience working with both Aliens and Predator series.
