The new year is soon upon us, and like most other people who are out there reflecting on the year that was, we’re taking stock of the triumphs, the tragedies, the highs and the lows. Comic Book Previews for December 23rd, 2009
Ho, ho, ho!!! Presents for all the comic book readers out there (naughty or nice is in the eye of the beholder after all!) are in stores this Wednesday, and before you pack up and pack in for winter, plan a trip to the relatives or stuff your ears with cotton to avoid the noisy toys, here’s this week’s comic book previews! DC brings some of its major titles this week, with Detective Comics #860 concluding the origin story of Batwoman, setting up a team-up with Batman in next month’s issue! Wonder Woman #39 reveals the secret behind Wonder Woman’s amazing new power, and be sure to check out Gotham City Sirens #7 as Catwoman has to take the reins and save the other sirens from a powerful challenge! Happy Thanksgiving! It’s a few days until pumpkin pie, stuffing and of course, turkey goodness descend upon the nation, so why not make a trip to your local comic book shop to stock up on reading for the food coma that will set in after the meal? Looking at what DC has in store this week, it appears that it’s justice for all! Justice League of America #39 gets things rolling, as the Blackest Night comes home to roost, with major villains such as Dr. Light back to “life” in this issue. Justice League: Cry for Justice #5 continues the story of a random assortment of heroes seeking true justice, even as villain Prometheus appears to be in custody! The dynamic writing duo of Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges bring the dramatic, current arc of the JSA to a close with Justice Society of America #33 hits stores, finally revealing the traitor behind the recent attacks on and destruction of this super team! Had enough candy? Hopefully by the time this Wednesday rolls around you’ll have recovered from the sugar high and the inevitable sugar crash in time to pick up and read this week’s new comics! Marvel has several solo features and limited series this week, starting with one of the most anticipated, Psylocke #1! This popular X-Man gets her own series this week, as she travels to put the remains of her former body to rest, but of course, it’s not that easy! Also, in the spirit of revival and rejuvenation, a new seven-issue series starring none other than Deathlok premieres with Deathlok #1. What will be the tale of one of Marvel’s most popular cyborgs? Happy early Halloween, comic book readers! Which super hero, villain, character will you be this year? How much did you spend on your costume? Hopefully not too much, as there’s comic book reading to be done! James Robinson and Mark Bagley officially begin their take on DC’s premiere super hero team when Justice League of America #38 hits comic book stores this week. It’s the beginning of a new era when a villain from the past returns to wreak havoc on a team that has been hit hard recently by personnel changes and plenty of tragedy! Speaking of the past, Azrael #1 debuts, with the character starring in his own solo series following a two-part story in recent Batman and Detective Comics annuals! Fabian Nicieza will be handling the stories and Ramon Bachs will take care of the artistic duties in this book featuring another of Gotham’s costumed figures! Read more

Well avid readers, we’re freshly back from our trip to the Baltimore Comic-Con this past weekend, and boy are our pens tired! Expect to see some great reports, pictures and interviews over the next week from the show, but first, of course, our comic book previews of hot books coming out this Wednesday!
Marvel brings us some items from the somthing old and something new categories this week, as Web of Spider-Man returns with issue one! Kaine the spider-clone retuns in this issue, as well as a feature with Spider-Girl herself! The something new this week comes with the return of Magneto, which will kick off a new story arc in Uncanny X-Men # 516, as the Nation X story begins! Speaking of mutants, Deadpool hits us with Deadpool #900. Boy, doesn’t the time…fly? Does it matter what issue this is numbered? It’s 104 pages of everything but the kitchen sink humor, action and a live chicken even! Read more

For those who get paid at the end of the month, this Wednesday is your lucky day! Go green and save some gas by running to the back with your check and then head over to your local comic book shop to pick up this week’s latest and greatest new releases! DC this week features an 80-page GIANT special titled Justice League of America, which shows the super team scattered throughout time and battling various foes from across times, locations and forms of combat. Teen Titans reaches a milestone this week with issue #75, and be sure to jump aboard here, as new writer Felicia D. Henderson makes her mark on this DC staple. Also look for Justice Society of America #31, as the traitor in the team’s midst stands revealed! Superman #692 continues a new direction for the title, as the Science Police become more of a force! The days of summer are slowly waning, soon we’ll break out sweaters and jackets, and pumpkins, hopefully not of the bomb variety, will pop up everywhere. That doesn’t mean we have to slow down our reading of comics, especially THIS week!! Marvel brings the long-awaited, much-ballyhooed, debut of the new Spider-Woman solo series is HERE!!
