Dollhouse Cancelled by Fox
It’s a sad day in Whedonverse. In news that may not surprise those who track ratings, Fox has officially pulled the plug on the just-into-its-second season series Dollhouse. The show had been struggling in the ratings ever since it premiered, despite having a devoted and active fan base. DVR ratings were a factor in the show getting a sort-of life this season, with the thirteen ordered episodes going ahead as planned. The show, starring Eliza Dushku as a woman who is programmed with memories and skills for various missions, had promise, but many felt that Fox did not permit Whedon the freedom to develop the series in his way early on. ‘Dollhouse’ Gets Good News From Fox…For Now!
Fans of the Eliza Dushku-starring sci-fi series Dollhouse got a couple of pieces of good news yesterday when it was revealed that the series’ second season premiere gained 50% in its ratings share when DVR ratings were factored in, tying it with Smallville for biggest percentage gain in ratings! The move is the silver lining perhaps to a cloud that consisted of a 1.0 ratings share for the show, which went up to 1.5 with the news of the ratings bump, according to thrfeed.com. Read more
Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse Adds Ray Wise to Cast!
The Dollhouse may need an addition! Veteran actor Ray Wise (Reaper, Twin Peaks) will be joining the cast in what Entertainment Weekly is calling a “potentially recurring role” as Howard, an employee of the Dollhouse who works in the upper-levels of authority in the shadowy organization. Wise will be the latest addition to a burgeoning list of high-profile guest stars who will join Dollhouse in its second season, which premiers September 25th on Fox. Alexis Denisof (Buffy, Angel) and Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama on Battlestar Galactica) are notable guest stars, as well as the popular Summer Glau from Firefly. Read more
Dollhouse Will Add Reaper Creators to its Writing Staff
Now that the CW’s supernatural/demonic tinged show Reaper has ended its short stint on television, Fox has announced that Dollhouse, which itself has struggled in the ratings during its first season, will add Reaper creators Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters to the writing staff for season two.
Fazekas and Butters have also signed an exclusive deal with 20th Century Fox, who happens to produce Dollhouse. This could be an interesting and smart idea, as Reaper, as a whole, received solid critical approval when it debuted, but did struggle to find its footing on the CW. Will they also work to inject some of the comedic elements that worked on Reaper into the pure drama of Dollhouse? Viewers will get a chance to see when Dollhouse begins airing its second season starting Friday, September 18th.
Fox Gives Sarah Connor the Boot, Keeps Dollhouse
‘Dollhouse’, the low ratings Joss Whedon vehicle, was given a reprieve for its slow start. The show, which stars Eliza Dushu, has been renewed for fall 2009 schedule.
However, another show that we cover on ComicBook.com wasn’t so lucky. As expected, ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ was canceled. It’s a shame, as the show was actually pretty good. However, it was cursed with a Friday night slot, and it never really got legs.
Dollhouse Season Finale – Omega Episode
