Iron Man 2 Production Begins: Rourke Does Not Disappoint
According to Director Jon Favreau’s twitter account, production for the highly anticipated Iron Man 2 movie began on Monday, April 6. That means Robert Downey Jr. is suiting up into the ole Red and Gold, Gwyneth Paltrow is getting into a power suit and setting up appointments as Pepper Potts, and Terrence Howard is at home wondering why Don Cheadle is playing Jim Rhodes instead of him.
Also starring in the cast are Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson. The duo will play Russian villains The Crimson Dynamo and Black Widow. Sam Rockwell will be on hand to play Tony Stark rival, Justin Hammer. According to a twitter post by Jon Favreau about Mickey Rourke’s first day on the set, “Rourke does not disappoint.”
Mickey Rourke And Scarlett Johansson Take Iron Man 2 Roles
Variety is reporting that after several weeks of speculation, actor Mickey Rourke will indeed star in the forthcoming Iron Man sequel. Reportedly, Rourke was dissatisfied with Marvel Studios’ initial offer of $250,000 to play an Iron Man villain and the deal at first fell through.
During this time, director Jon Favreau remained hopeful to snag the veteran actor. Even Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., got involved in the actor’s recruitment. Taking a page out of The Avengers, Downey invited Rourke to join the cast of Iron Man 2 during a roundtable interview with Newsweek’s David Ansen. Sources claim that Downey’s candor sealed the deal with Rourke, who in turn agreed to salary terms with Marvel.
Actress Drops Out Of Iron Man Sequel
According to The Playlist, during a red carpet interview with E!, Iron Man 2 Movie director Jon Favreau confirmed that actress Emily Blunt will not play the Russian super-heroine Black Widow. Favreau cited that a conflicting schedule would prevent Blunt from being a part of the film. The actress is set to act in the film Gulliver’s Travels opposite actor Jack Black. The move prompted Fox Studios to exercise an option to drop Blunt from the Marvel Comics picture. Favreau told reporters that a replacement actress had yet to be cast for the Black Widow role.
Favreau also spoke with E! concerning the status of Mickey Rourke. The director confirmed that while Rourke has yet to be cast as either the Crimson Dynamo or Whiplash, the veteran actor is still very interested. This information conflicts with an earlier report from Iron Man himself, Robert Downey, Jr., in which he told MTV that Rourke would not play the character of the Crimson Dynamo.
Sam Rockwell Confirms His Role In Iron Man 2
Actor Sam Rockwell has confirmed the rumor to MTV’s Splash Page that he will star in the upcoming Iron Man sequel. The 39 year-old star of such films as Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, will play Stark Industries rival, Justin Hammer.
While Rockwell does admit to being cast, he didn’t reveal very many specifics about Hammer’s role in the film. “Yeah, he’s a rival,” Rockwell said, “He takes over all the weapons stuff … I don’t know if he takes over Stark Industries.”
