Spider-Man Relaunch to be Directed by Marc Webb
Sony has wasted no time in moving forward with their relaunch of the Spider-Man franchise! Marc Webb has been tapped to helm the new film series. After a much publicized falling out with director Sam Raimi, who steered the course of the first three Spider-Man films, the company is looking at a grittier reboot of the series, and Webb has been tapped to lead the series in a new direction. Marvel Announces Spider-Man And Super Heroes All Ages Series
Who says comic books aren’t for kids anymore? While the majority of modern day comic books target older readers, Marvel Comics is doing their part to bring in new comic book readers. Marvel has announced two new ongoing all ages series.
The two new titles are part of the Marvel Adventures line. Spider-Man #1 and Super Heroes #1 will launch with oversized debut issues. Both premiere issues will be packed with full length all-new stories and bonus back up stories and will retail for $3.99. Both issues are scheduled to arrive in comic book stores in April. Later issues will be regular sized and priced at $2.99.

DC this week features an 80-page GIANT special titled Justice League of America, which shows the super team scattered throughout time and battling various foes from across times, locations and forms of combat. Teen Titans reaches a milestone this week with issue #75, and be sure to jump aboard here, as new writer Felicia D. Henderson makes her mark on this DC staple. Also look for Justice Society of America #31, as the traitor in the team’s midst stands revealed! Superman #692 continues a new direction for the title, as the Science Police become more of a force! Jack Kirby’s Family Seeks to Reclaim Rights From Disney, Marvel
Acclaimed comic book artist Jack Kirby was responsible for co-creating some of the most memorable characters in comic book history, as well as illustrating some of its iconic and classic battles. Now, Kirby’s children are possibly creating an epic battle of their own. According to the L.A. Times, the late Kirby’s four children have filed what has been referred to as “notice of copyright termination” for 45 characters to companies such as Marvel Entertainment, Disney, Universal Pictures, the owners of Hulk distribution rights, and 20th Century Fox, owners of the movie rights to distribute X-Men and Fantastic Four films. Amazing Spider-Man #600 Gets Second Printing
Last week, Comicbook.com reported on Marvel Comics’ announcement that Incredible Hulk #600 would be going to a second printing. Well, no surprise here, but this week brings news that Marvel Comics will also be doing a second printing on Amazing Spider-Man #600.
Amazing Spider-Man #600 has sold out at Diamond distribution, and Marvel Comics will be doing an Amazing Spider-Man #600 Second Printing Variant. Amazing Spider-Man #600 is an oversized issue featuring work by Dan Slott, Stan “The Man” Lee, Joe Kelly, Marc Guggenheim, Mark Waid, Bob Gale, Zeb Wells, John Romita Jr., Marcos Martin, Mario Alberti and more.
The storyline deals with Doctor Octopus returning to New York, with an all-new look. Doctor Octopus of course plans to get his revenge on Spider-Man, who is getting ready for Aunt May’s wedding. There is also a visit from Daredevil.
Incredible Hulk #600 Gets Second Printing
Marvel Comics has announced that Incredible Hulk #600 has sold out at the distribution level. Therefore, Marvel has also announced that they will be going back to press to print a second edition of this important Hulk issue. The Incredible Hulk #600 Second Printing Variant is scheduled to arrive in comic book stores on September 9, 2009.
In addition to the Hulk, Incredible Hulk #600 also features a special guest appearance by Spider-Man. The issue covers some of the secrets about the origin of Red Hulk. Incredible Hulk #600 was written by Jeph Loeb with art by Ed McGuineess. It also leads into Greg Pak’s Incredible Hulk #601 while Loeb and McGuinness continue on Hulk.
In addition, there is a tale of The Savage She Hulk by Fred Van Lente, and the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale Hulk Gray #1 is re-presented. The Incredible Hulk #600 Second Printing Variant will feature the interior art of McGuinness on the cover.
Spider-Man Animated Series Swings Online!
Marvel continues to roll out the nostalgia of television! Following the posting of the original 1960’s era animated Spider-Man, the comic book giant has begun posting episodes of the highly successful 1990’s follow-up Spider-Man on Marvel.com. Each Wednesday a new episode of the series, which ran for over four years on Fox, will be posted for viewers to see and experience all over again or for the first time! Read more
World of Warcraft Film to be Directed by Sam Raimi
In addition to his duties with the Spider-Man film franchise, director Sam Raimi has been named as the leader of the big-screen adaptation of the massively popular World of Warcraft online game. A live-action version of the multiplayer game, where participants can take on the guise of an orc, dwarf, human or other creature. The film, produced in conjunction with Raimi’s Atlas Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, will be fashioned in a way that follows a quest, in the hopes that this will lead to a film franchise and multiple sequels.
