Recently we ran into Leila McMichael (her Klingon name is Captain Keela Sutai-Septaric) at HeroesCon, where she was decked out in full Klingon gear for a good cause.

How did you get your Klingon name?

I chose the Klingon name because it was close to my Klingon name and I joined the House of Septaric so that became my last name. Read more

The Dark Knight Storms Annual Saturn Awards

Adding more awards to an already impressive list, The Dark Knight lay claim to five more in last night’s Saturn Awards, the annual ceremony put on by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.  While the Academy Awards may have announced that the DC Comics’ hero’s portrayal played a part in their decision to expand the Best Picture category from five to ten nominees in the coming years, the Saturn Awards richly awarded The Dark Knight in several main categories. ‘Star Trek’ blasts to a huge $72.5 million opening

May 11, 2009 · Posted in Star Trek · 1 Comment

“Star Trek” plans to ‘live long and prosper’, according to the film’s opening weekend box office take.  Blowing past the competition, the reboot of the long running franchise took in a whopping $72.5 million dollars, easily outsdistancing the 2nd place finisher, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

Boosted by fantastic reviews and strong word of mouth, the movie actually gained momentum throughout the weekend, taking in $26.8 million on Friday and $27.4 million on Saturday.

The latest installment of the beloved franchise, Star Trek centers on the early days of Captain Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy and the rest of the U.S.S. Enterprise crew.

Paging Zachary Quinto: It’s Time To Let Go Of Sylar

May 9, 2009 · Posted in Heroes, Movies, Star Trek, TV · 39 Comments

An open letter to Zachary Quinto:  You don’t know me, but I’m going to give you some helpful advice anyway.  You see, I just got back from seeing the new Star Trek film, and I absolutely loved it.  The story was great, the characters were interesting.  It just rocked.  Except one thing.

You.  While I did my best to pretend that the crazy hair, pointy ears and (even) bigger eyebrows really helped you to BE Spock, the problem is, I just kept seeing–and especially hearing–Sylar from Heroes.

While we at ComicBook.com typically get passes to advance screenings to many movies (as was the case with “Star Trek”), we also like to send someone out to screen the movie early on Friday.  Why? We’ve found that the first showing on a Friday will give us a good gauge of how the film will do on opening weekend. Read more

Zachary Quinto is Primed for Star Trek Sequels

May 6, 2009 · Posted in Star Trek · 1 Comment

Even though ‘Star Trek’ hasn’t hit theaters yet, Zachary Quinto (Spock) is looking forward to future sequels.  The Heroes star sat down with SciFiWire and talked about the Star Trek franchise:

“We spent a lot of time in this film introducing these characters and exploring the events that lead them to the convergence as the crew of the Enterprise.” So I imagine that in future films, or the next film or the next installment, we would probably settle into some sort of cohesion as a crew, as individuals and as a unit.”

Midnight Mass: Droves Come Out for Wolverine

Even as I type this, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is being proclaimed as the weekend’s box office champion, taking in at least $87 million dollars, far ahead of its closest competitors. While this is certainly not shocking to many, as this film was expected to do as much, a large number of people who helped to contribute to this number were viewers who took advantage of local theaters showing the film at midnight on May 1st.

Talking with several people at a Durham, North Carolina theater gave a pretty clear indication as to what these viewers were hoping to see, even at a late hour during the traditional work week, and not in the middle of summer, no less.
