Comic Book Previews for September 30th, 2009

For those who get paid at the end of the month, this Wednesday is your lucky day!  Go green and save some gas by running to the back with your check and then head over to your local comic book shop to pick up this week’s latest and greatest new releases!  DC this week features an 80-page GIANT special titled Justice League of America, which shows the super team scattered throughout time and battling various foes from across times, locations and forms of combat.  Teen Titans reaches a milestone this week with issue #75, and be sure to jump aboard here, as new writer Felicia D. Henderson makes her mark on this DC staple.  Also look for Justice Society of America #31, as the traitor in the team’s midst stands revealed!  Superman #692 continues a new direction for the title, as the Science Police become more of a force! Where does the time go?  It’s already time for a look at what will be hitting store shelves this week from the producers of your favorite four-color adventures!  DC Comics unleashes Blackest Night #3, the next chapter in the saga of Earth’s heroes against the super-powered dead!  Can the Green Lanterns and the Justice League begin to figure out what’s causing long-departed friends, family and villains to rise and attack?  The newest Batgirl spreads her wings in Batgirl #2 and a showdown in Fawcett City takes place in JSA vs. Kobra #4!  Action Comics #881 picks up immediately with the aftermath of Codename: Patriot, and Supergirl finds herself under added pressure.  Famed writer J. Michael Straczynski takes helm with issue 27 of The Brave and the Bold, as Batman teams with, wait for it, Dial H for Hero!!  Also be sure to check out Batman and Robin #4 and Streets of Gotham #4! Comic Book Previews for August 26th, 2009

The kids back in school this week aren’t the only ones starting a new term and a new direction, as this Wednesday gives us the highly anticipated debut of the Jonathan Hickman and Dale Eaglesham creative team behind The Fantastic Four with issue 570.  A new story arc also begins in Secret Warriors #7, as the Dark Avengers, Thunderbolts and Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors find themselves on a collision course, with Ares’ son the prize!  New Avengers #56 promises some shocking action, as the events of the previous issue unfold with several heroes having their power drained.  The Incredible Hulk #601 sees the return of the recurring title with a new world for Bruce Banner and company.  Dark X-Men: The Beginning wraps up with issue three, bringing to a close the origin of this deceptive, Emma Frost-led team. Robot Chicken on Wheels?

Robot Chicken, the cult TV show found on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, is hitting the road this summer to promote the upcoming release of Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II  on DVD, available July 21st.  The show, known for its skewering and riffs on pop culture icons such as Knight Rider and Batman, among many others, will launch a special tour to promote the release, providing fans of the series the chance to meet and roller skate with the creative forces behind the show. Comic Book New Releases for July 1st, 2009

Before you rush off to that Fourth of July barbecue or picnic, be sure to swing by your local comic book shop this Wednesday and pick up these explosive issues from all your favorite publishers, guaranteed to cause plenty of fireworks on their own!

It’s finally here!  For Marvel, the biggest release this week is certainly Captain America: Reborn #1.  The book, with multiple variant covers, is set to be a bestseller, and Marvel has been relatively quiet on what impact this return will have on a Marvel universe currently dealing with the events of Dark Reign.  On the lighter side, Deadpool: Merc With a Mouth debuts, with our anti-hero on a quest to retrieve his own head.  Read the book to find out what that means!  We can’t ruin all the fun!  Not letting the boys have all the fun, Marvel Divas #1 drops into stores, focusing on four of Marvel’s lesser-used female characters.  Also, don’t miss the second chapter in the Dark Avengers/X-Men arc Utopia; get Uncanny XMen #513 Wednesday! Dark Horse and Image Surge Into Summer

Marvel and DC won’t be the only comic book publishers cranking out exciting, page-turning adventures this summer. Dark Horse and Image both have plenty of stories lined up for this summer, with some already highly anticipated storylines in the works!

Jedi Invasion - Dropping into stores on July 1st, Dark Horse releases the next installment of its successful line of Star Wars titles with Star Wars: Invasion. This five-issue series has the Jedi forces staring down a bold new threat, potentially even more deadly than the Sith! How will Luke Skywalker and his allies triumph? Also look for new storylines to begin in other Dark Horse titles such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Legacy.

Free Comic Book Day 2009 Top Ten Comic Books

Ever since 2002, comic book stores have participated in Free Comic Book Day, an event geared to promote new titles, interest in comics, and generally just the joy and fun of comic books for readers of all ages. In the past, several issues have proven to be sleeper hits that went on to become collectible, The Umbrella Academy being one that springs immediately to mind, while other issues have been the premier issue of ongoing series. Several publishers participate, and there’s usually something for every type of reader, the genres spanning superhero, kids, how-to, compilation and sometimes the more mature titles.

Free Comic Book Day 2009 will be held on Saturday, May 2nd. Since some comic book stores may be limiting how many books you can take, it’s crucial that choices be made carefully!
