Five Questions We Want Answered in Supergirl - Better Angels
This is it, Supergirl fans, the last episode of the season. Kara and her allies square off against [...]
Will Anyone Die?
Since Arrow debuted four years ago, DC's superhero shows have had an informal tradition of killing off at least one major cast member per season. Executive producer Greg Berlanti has hinted that he'll continue the tradition on Supergirl, telling EW to "expect" a death, although he hedged somewhat by saying it would be a lot less exciting if he said that everyone survived the finale.
So, the big question is whether anyone will die in the finale, and if so, who will it be? There are a few key cast members currently in particularly dangerous situations heading into the finale that are the most likely candidates. We last saw J'onn bleeding on the ground from a nasty stab wound courtesy of Indigo, and Alex is under Non's control and vowing to fight Kara to the death. There's also Cat and Maxwell Lord, who are both actively trying to sabotage Myriad, which makes them prime targets for a Kryptonian attack. There's not really a superfluous cast member on the show, so whoever dies will impact Supergirl in a very big way.
prevnextWhat About Project Cadmus?
Alex and J'onn abandoned their mission of finding Project Cadmus to help Kara rescue National City. However, Cadmus seems like too big of a smoking gun to leave laying around for next season, so my bet is that the shady government program will play some sort of role in the finale. Could Cadmus provide some unexpected support in Supergirl's fight? Or will Cadmus be called in to retrieve the carcasses of whichever alien doesn't survive Kara's final stand against Non? And will we get to see Alex reunite with her supposedly dead father Jeremiah? Supergirl's season finale may center around Myriad, but all the intrigue comes from the looming threat of Cadmus.
prevnextWill Jimmy and Kara Finally Become a Couple?
Kara and Jimmy shared their first kiss two episodes ago, but it was unfortunately interrupted with Non activating Myriad and taking control of National City's residents...including Jimmy. Presuming that Jimmy survives whatever Non has planned for the city, will he and Kara finally become a couple? Or will Supergirl producers find yet another obstacle to throw in these lovebirds' paths? Will Kara and Jimmy even be in the mood to talk about their relationship once Supergirl has her final confrontation with Non?
For better or worse, Kara and Jimmy's budding relationship has been such a major part of Supergirl, the producers need to give fans some sort of resolution before season end.
prevnextMaxwell Lord: Hero or Villain?
Last week, Maxwell Lord introduced his "final solution" for stopping Non and his army of Kryptonite criminals: a kryptonite dirty bomb. Although Lord's plan would kill any Kryptonian in National City, it would also cause significant collateral damage to the human populace AND would prevent Supergirl and Superman from returning to National City ever again?
Although Supergirl convinced Lord to work on a non-lethal way to stop Non, let's not forget that Max was a villain for the better part of Supergirl's first season. And while he reached an "understanding" with Supergirl and the DEO, Lord still might hold a grudge for when the DEO unlawfully held him for weeks. So will Lord continue his "good streak", or will Max finally show his hand and reveal that he's been playing Supergirl once again?
prevnextWill Supergirl Get a Second Season?
This isn't a question that can really be answered on tonight's episode, but the biggest question among Supergirl fans is whether the show will return for the fall. CBS has yet to renew Supergirl for a second season, giving the fanbase an inkling of worry that the network will pass on the show. While there's scuttlebutt that CBS had hoped for better ratings from Supergirl, the show has still received plenty of praise and a larger than normal viewership for a superhero show. Then again, CBS hasn't renewed any of their rookie TV shows for second seasons, so it's likely that there's an internal reason for the delay. Fans shouldn't get too worried about Supergirl's fate, but it would still be nice if CBS could put any fears to bed before the season finale.
