On Monday, when it was revealed that Superman will appear in the first two episodes of Supergirl's second season, people everywhere began to wonder which actor would don the red cape next. So far, the top choice has been the former Smallville star Tom Welling.

One potential hang up was that Welling might be too busy working on Section 13, a drama series project he was producing and starring in for CBS; however, TV Line is reporting that the network is "not moving forward" with it, so Welling's dance card freed up.

After ten long seasons of The CW's Clark Kent-drama, we only got a brief glimpse of Welling as Superman in the show's finale, so there's a lot of pent up interest in seeing him truly be the tights-and-flight version of the MAN of Steel.

In the past year, Welling has frequently been asked whether or not he would play Superman on Supergirl if he was offered the opportunity. He never said yes, but he did indicate on multiple occasions he would be open to the possibility.

"There's people who would like it. There's people who don't like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever asked me to do it. So, I don't know," Welling told Buzzfeed in January. "It would be kind of odd. I don't know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman..."

Season 2 of Supergirl is headed to The CW this fall and will air on Mondays at 8PM.
