With Suicide Squad charging into theaters this Friday, critics are now releasing their once-embargoed reviews of the film - and they're not pretty. As of right now, Suicide Squad is sitting with a shocking 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, and many critics are pushing back hard against the film. And, now, it looks like director David Ayer is responding to the slew of negative reviews coming his way.

Not long ago, Ayer took to Twitter to post a very famous quote by Emiliano Zapta. He wrote, "Prefiero morir de pie que vivir de rodillas." And, for those of you who aren't familiar with Spanish, the quote roughly translates to. "I'd prefer to die on my feet than to live on my knees."

Obviously, it looks like Ayer is standing behind Suicide Squad, for sure.

Ayer later followed up with a second tweet which read, "[the] Zapata quote is my way of saying I love the movie and believe in it. Made it for the fans. Best experience of my life."

Currently, many of the reviews circulating around the Internet belong to professional critics who may or may not be familiar with the film's source material. But, still, their critical observations of Suicide Squad consistently point to its lacking plot coherency and 'cheesy moments' as some of its biggest sins. However, the film's true test will come on Friday when Suicide Squad is released to the public. At that point, the film's future will be entirely up to movie buffs and comic book enthusiasts everywhere.

Of course, this isn't the first time a much-anticipated film has garnered harsh reviews ahead of its release. Most recently, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice underwhelmed critics as the film scored a measly 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. And, though fans were wary of the film initially, its audience score on the popular ratings site stands at 65%.

What do you all think about these initial reviews? Will they keep any of you from seeing Suicide Squad when it hits this Friday?
