With Supergirl set to fly into its second season this fall, its executive producer had a lot to say about the series' return. During a recent interview, Andrew Kreisberg spoke with Collider during the TCA Summer Press Tour to discuss the show's biggest changes. After all, with Supergirl having moved from CBS to The CW, the series is joining a network that's known for its comic book adaptations. So, when it came to talking Supergirl Season Two, Andrew couldn't help but gush about how excited he is to see fans react to Kara Danvers new storyline. And, of course, he had plenty to say about the series' upcoming musical cross-over and Superman debut.

Andrew started his Supergirl discussion by saying how excited the show's team is to get the series back on air. "We're so excited...by everything we're doing that we can't wait for everybody to see it," he said. "We feel like The CW is going to be the beneficiary of everything that we've learned 'cause we really feel like we've taken the show to the next level, creatively. We're just so excited for everybody to see it."

And it seems like Supergirl's next-level creativity includes some decidedly musical numbers. Speaking about the episode, Andrew told fans the episode will be anything but campy.

"The musical will just be awesome. It's gonna be fun. It's funny, we have villains that can split the earth in half. We have villains that can run at the speed of light," he said. "What's so crazy about a villain that can make you think your friends are singing and dancing in front of you?" Of course, while some fans may think the villain's powers are a bit silly, others might recognize those abilities from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The animated series featured a fan-favorite villain named Music Meister who could hypnotize and control others through music. While there's no telling whether Supergirl is using their own iteration of the DC villain, fans are saying they'd be happy to see the quirky character.

And, when it came to talking Superman, Andrew had only lovely things to say about Tyler Hoechlin's portrayal of Clark Kent. When asked about Supergirl's take on the iconic hero, Andrew said, "I think our take on him is probably something a little bit more traditional. There's certainly a little bit of the "Aw shucks" about him, but he's been Superman for awhile, so there's a savviness about him as Superman and as Clark."

Andrew also went on to say that Supergirl wasn't sourcing Superman through any one comic book. Rather than going for a direct adaptation, the producer explained that the show was looking at every Superman iteration out there and picking what all they liked best. "We cherry pick the best parts and things that we love. So, there's a little bit of the Christopher Reeve Superman in there, a healthy dose of the Superman animated series, which we're huge fans of, a little bit of Lois & Clark, a little George Reeves, and a little Super Friends," Andrew said.

What's more, Andrew said Tyler's decision to join Supergirl is what helped the show to get behind Superman. The actor was the team's first choice, and Andrew recalled how he and Greg Berlanti reacted to Tyler's audition. "We've been fans of his for years, and when we sat down with him, he is Superman. Not just with the looks, but he's such a good guy," he said. "You just feel better when you're around him, which I think is part of the secret of Superman. He is that ideal, but not in an unattainable way. Superman should make you feel like you can do anything, even though he's the one that can do anything. And Tyler just had all that in spades."

Supergirl will return this Fall to The CW for its second season.
