We're still a couple of weeks away from the airdate for The Flash's third season premiere -- but here at ComicBook.com, we've peered through the Waverider's on-board computers and taken a look at what to expect in October.
At the end of The Flash's second season, the world changed. Barry Allen traveled back in time and prevented the murder of his mother at the hands of the Reverse-Flash, creating an alternate timeline where both of his parents are alive -- but at what cost?
"When we pick it up, Barry doesn't have any regrets at this point," series star Grant Gustin told us at Comic Con International: San Diego. "Barry's been in this timeline for a few months when we start 'Flashpoint.' He's still living in a complete state of bliss with both of his parents alive. There's a Kid Flash running around as The Flash, so Barry doesn't have to be The Flash and he's okay with that. He still has his powers, but he's starting to forget the other timeline. He's got new memories that are emerging, like graduating high school or college or moments with his parents, and they're replacing old memories. And I think it's when he starts to realize that's happening, that's when he starts to realize how selfish this kind of was, how messed up it was. It's affecting not only him and his family's life, but everybody connected to him and -- who knows? -- countless people across the globe potentially. So the incredibly indecisive Barry Allen is going to try to fix things again once he realizes how much this has affected everyone's life."
Now, we're not going to spoil any plot points explicitly here -- or in our review of the season premiere, which will run later today. Rather, this is an opportunity for us to provide fans with some tantalizing tidbits that readers can use to try and speculate about and suss out.
That kind of thing tends to make for fun conversation when a TV season is on hiatus, and as the season premiere draws closer and more and more clues are out there, it tends to build to a fever pitch.
- More than ever before, Iris is Barry's lightning rod. It's reminiscent of the relationship Wally West and Linda Park had during the Mark Waid run.
- Longtime fans will recognize a familiar face from the past in the first few minutes of the episode.
- Some comic book fans hoping for large-scale change in the world of Flashpoint are going to be disappointed.
- Joe West gets the most "WTF" line of the episode.
- The episode ends on a potentially game-changing cliffhanger.
