Happy Birthday! Tom Cavanagh Turns 53 Years Old Today

Happy birthday, Tom Cavanagh! The actor turns 53 today.

Born in Ontario, Canada, Cavanagh was raised in Ottawa before moving to a small suburb in Ghana as a child. By his teens, the actor had moved to Quebec with his family and eventually attended Queen's University. It was there that Cavanagh found his passion for theater.

The actor began professional work through commercial roles. By the late 1980s, Cavanagh was making his way to the stage after being cast in the Broadway revival of Shenandoah. However, it was his television work on NBC's Providence that helped the actor book his first title role in Ed.

For his work on Ed, Cavanagh earned a Golden Globe nominaton and TV Guide Award. The series ran for four seasons. Later, Cavanagh would guest star on Scrubs as Dan Dorian, the older brother to the show's protagonist J.D.

Today, fans will more than likely recognize the actor because of his work on The Flash. Cavanagh was cast in The CW series back in 2014 to play Dr. Harrison Wells, a genius inventor and mentor to Barry Allen. In the first season, the actor portrayed Wells and a villainous character known as Eobard Thawne before he returned for the second season. In both the second and third seasons, Cavanagh plays an alternate-reality version of Wells from Earth-2.
