Before The Flash went on its midseason hiatus, we got a look into a possible future courtesy of Barry Allen's time-traveling abilities while using the Speed Force. While in the future, we saw this season's primary antagonist Savitar kill Iris West, the current love interest and future wife of the show's main character.

Of course, nothing's set in stone as the Savitar-killing-Iris scenario is just one of virtually an infinite number of possible futures and as we've seen this season, Barry's most certainly willing to go back in the past to save those he loves. In a recent sit-down with TVLine, The Flash co-showrunner Aaron Helbing shared how worried we should get about the possible death of Iris West.

"You know, obviously, Barry loves Iris more than anything, and now that he has gotten a glimpse of the future, that's kind of going to be the thrust of the back half of the season - Barry trying to do whatever it takes to save Iris," Helbing said. "Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale) is going to play a huge part in that. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) will play a huge part. Everybody will play a huge part in saving Iris, because she's part of the team."

In the midseason finale, we saw Team Flash wrangle Savitar into a Savitar-proof box and throw it into the Speed Force, seemingly trapping the villain in some sort of inescapable time-loop. Of course, it wouldn't make sense that Savitar was truly trapped, especially since Barry saw a possible future in which Savitar murdered his love interest.

"Yes, the box was thrown into the Speed Force, but because Barry got thrust into the future and he saw Savitar, it's going to be kind of that itch that he can't scratch - like, how is this possible?" reflected Helbing. "That'll help drive Barry through the rest of the season."

Based on the characters from DC, The Flash is from by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Supergirl), Andrew Kreisberg (Arrow, The Flash), Sarah Schechter (Arrow, DC's Legends of Tomorrow) and Aaron and Todd Helbing.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT; The Flash on Tuesdays at the same time, followed by DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m.; Arrow on Wednesdays at 8.

The Flash returns with all-new episodes Tuesday, January 24th on The CW.
