Take a badass army guy pumped full of super soldier serum and pit him against a billionaire entrepreneur that has more than enough money to buy and build any weaponry one could think of. Who do you think would win?

Hostess Clare Kramer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) posed the all-important question — who would win in a fight between Batman and Captain America — to pop culture icon Stan Lee this weekend at 'The Men, The Myths, The Legends' panel held at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2).

Stan offered a great tidbit of advice with his response.

"Anytime anybody asks you who would win in a fight, the only correct answer is that it depends on who's writing the story," Lee reflected.

It should be noted the two superheroes have faced each other in comics before, most notably in the DC vs. Marvel Comics mini-series released in 1996. In this mini-series, two brothers who each represent that respective publisher's universes agree to duel — and the loser's universe would have to cease to exist.

While some smaller fights took place — Aquaman pinning Namor under a giant whale or Thor using Mjolnir to pummel DC's Captain Marvel — the end results of fights featuring the heavy hitters from each publisher were left up to a fan vote.

The Caped Crusader and Steve Rogers faced off and the fans eventually chose the former to win. Although Batman won the battle, Marvel ended up winning the war, but thanks to the teamwork between Spectre and The Living Tribunal, they were able to save the two universes by fusing them together to create the short-lived Amalgam universe.
