The close sibling relationship between Kara and Alex Danvers in Supergirl has been one of the most consistent elements of the show and in the upcoming third season fans will get to see sisters became so close.

The show's sixth episode entitled "Midvale" will see Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) returning to their childhood home. While there, they'll relive a murder mystery from their high school days that shaped who they are and their relationship. The episode will contain flashbacks to a younger Kara, a role that was just recast with a new actress, Izabela Vidovic.

Benoist told Entertainment Weekly that the episode will explain how an alien from Krypton and her human sister truly became family.

"You'll get to see, through the way they interact, how their relationship started when Kara first came to Earth, how it grew, how it became so close and why they're so close nowadays," Benoist said.

The exploration of Kara and Alex's relationship origin plays into a larger theme for the third season of The CW show. Benoist previously told CBR that after the events of last season — specifically losing Mon-El — Kara is going to be trying to explore who she really is, which includes determining what she really is as well.

"It's a couple of months past where we left off. When we pick up in season three, Kara has very much dedicated herself to Supergirl, and I don't think she really wants to address what happened for Kara Danvers personally, because that was such a massive heartbreak for her. So, the balance is a little off-kilter right now, and this season I think we're really going to explore her identity. She's really questioning whether she's human or an alien and which she wants to be," Benoist said.," Benoist said.

Supergirl returns Monday, October 9th on The CW.
