Marc Guggenheim Compares 'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 3 To 'Beverly Hills Cop'

From the beginning, The CW's Legends of Tomorrow has been unabashedly a rag tag team of nobody heroes who become, well, legends. However, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has a slightly different description for the team in season three.
Guggenheim told TV Line that with the Legends locking horns with Rip Hunter's newly formed Time Bureau in season three one could compare Legends to Beverly Hills Cop.
"If [the Time Bureau] is the Beverly Hills police department, our characters are Axel Foley," Guggenheim said. "We find the fun in that antagonistic relationship."
Just in case you haven't seen the classic 1984 action comedy film, Beverly Hills Cop stars Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a street-smart cop from Detroit who goes to Beverly Hills to solve the murder of his best friend. As you can guess, in addition to the action promised by a cop film, there's a lot of culture shock comedy as Foley's rougher-around-the-edges ways clashes with posh Beverly Hills sensibilities.
That kind of hilarity is exactly what Guggenheim is going for with Legends, even if it means getting even closer to jumping the proverbial shark as the team encounters misplaced people and things -- like Julius Caesar hanging out on a beach in Aruba, or a Helen Hunt episode -- on their mission to fix everything that went wrong when they broke time at the end of season two.
"The approach was to take everything that worked last year and double down, go further, make it zanier," says the EP. "Last year we lived maybe five inches from the Jump the Shark line. Now we're two inches in front of it."
Fans will see just how zany that two inches from the line is when Legends of Tomorrow returns Tuesday nights at 9 p.m., following new episodes of The Flash, in October.
