The leader of the League of Assassins has come to the city in search of the fledgling vigilante and now that he has him in his sights, he plans to mould the young Wayne into a weapon.
As part of their fall preview, TV Guide spoke with Ra’s al Ghul actor Alexander Siddig about the new season and how his character will play a prominent role in Bruce’s journey to become to become the Dark Knight.
The famed leader of the League of Assassins will "snap" the last twig of Bruce's innocence, as Siddig puts it, plunging the young man further down the dark path to becoming his vigilante alter ego.
"My character has been on a centuries long mission to locate Bruce and finally finds him, and will do anything he can to get his hands on him, to manipulate him into what [Ra's] wants him to be," Siddig says. "That is going to be Bruce's biggest challenge. Just how dark will he go? How far is he prepared to follow Ra's al Guhl?" According to the actor, Season 4 is going to be "a season so far of extremes" -- so get ready for things to get even darker on Gotham.
Ra’s al Ghul played a key role in Bruce Wayne’s transition in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
In Batman Begins, he welcomes Bruce into the League of Shadows and trains him in ways of combat, stealth, and more. After encouraging him to murder a criminal, Bruce instead burns their temple to the ground and possibly kills countless more, including the man he thought to be Ra’s al Ghul.
It remains to be seen how prominent of a role Ra’s will play in the latest season, especially as it pushes toward an even bigger turf war between the various criminal factions of Gotham City.
Ra’s definitely has an plan for the city and for Bruce, and we’ll learn more about it when Gotham returns to FOX on September 21.
