When Arrow returns to television next month it won't just be Oliver Queen adjusting to a new normal. The people of Star City may find themselves having to adjust to adjust to the "return" of Laurel Lance.
While the real Laurel Lance met her end at the end of The CW show's fourth season her Earth-2 incarnation is alive, well, and as of the season finale, on the side of the bad guys as Black Siren. The whole situation could have Star City thinking that they're seeing dead people and as Stephen Amell told Entertainment Weekly things could get interesting.
"She looks exactly like Laurel Lance, she is Laurel Lance," Amell said. "Laurel Lance is the most famous dead person in Star City, so eventually, at some point, if she is reintroduced into public life, how do we unpack that? I'm excited for that. That's the dynamic I think could be interesting."
Of course, being the villainous Black Siren in the shadow of the heroic former Black Canary won't be easy for the Earth-2 Laurel either. We already know that audiences are supposed to get more of her Earth-2 backstory in the upcoming season. With her history with her home world's versions of Oliver as well as her family ties coming more into focus, having to adjust to public perception may leave Black Siren having to choose who or what she wants to be.
A new and different Laurel Lance won't be the only surprise the public will have to process, either. Oliver will be returning to Star City with a son in tow, something that at a minimum will create a new set of challenges, for both Oliver and Star City. Executive producer Wendy Mericle previously told TVLine that it would be something the show will explore.
"We are definitely exploring this notion of what is it like for Oliver to have a kid and be in the spotlight in the city," Mericle said.
Arrow returns on Thursday, October 12th on The CW.
