Fans keeping up with pre-production on the Shazam! movie (and it's accompanying wall of empty Coke cans) received a treat from the latest update with an appearance by the president of DC Entertainment.

Geoff Johns made an appearance in David F. Sandberg's office for the routine progress report, brandishing a sign beckoning the director to get back to work.

It makes sense that Johns would be stopping by to check in on the director given his position as one of the heads of DC Films, but this project might be more personal for the fan-favorite writer.

Johns penned the New 52 origin for the character alongside frequent collaborator Gary Frank. The two produced best-selling graphic novels in the Batman: Earth One series and will collaborate later this year for the Watchmen and DC Comics mashup event Doomsday Clock. But they were responsible for updating the former Captain Marvel when they decided to abandon the name in the mainstream universe for the more recognizable Shazam!

While there is no word on how involved Johns will be with the Shazam! movie, seeing him on the periphery this early on could bode well for some DC Comics and movies fans. So far, the one movie in the current release of DCEU films that has Johns' biggest fingerprints is Wonder Woman.

The movie is critically and commercially acclaimed and is second in total gross only to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had the benefit of featuring two of DC Comics' most popular characters together for the first time. Wonder Woman was the first feature film focusing on the Amazon princess, capitalizing off of immense buzz to drive an impressive run in theaters.

Johns has had a string of hits with the projects he personally works on, having also penned the pilot for The Flash which is now entering its fourth season.

The Flash movie was also recently announced to be called Flashpoint, making it the third adaptation based on Johns' original comic after the animated film and the storyline in the TV show.

Johns is an undeniable influence in the movies based on DC Comics, and it would be wise for the films' creators to lean on him much like Sandberg seems to be doing for the Shazam! movie.
