Amid all the action and banter between the Justice League members, there is one other constant that seems to be important, but no one knows why.

At one point Bruce Wayne is standing in the Batcave, staring at a holographic image. The image is shown from behind and a limited angle, but the red boots and swaying cape indicate it is a projection of Superman.

So, why exactly is Batman staring at Superman's hologram? Nothing is known for sure, but a few theories do exist.

The most obvious theory is that he looks at Superman's hologram as a constant reminder of his mission going forward. Batman is all about symbols acting as inspiration, and Superman's image would be a lot like his display of Robin's suit in the Batcave, a constant reminder of what he's lost and what he fights for.

Not going to lie though, if that were the case it would feel a bit, well, simple.

So maybe it's a bit more complicated than that. When Superman's casket is shown in the final moments of the Batman v Superman trailer, the dirt is shown to vibrate upward, caused by something in the casket.

Perhaps Batman had already placed sensors on the casket beforehand. If he did, he would have seen a readout of those energy readings, leading him to believe that maybe Superman isn't all the way dead. It would also cause him to constantly monitor Superman's body, hoping to see some fluctuation in his life signs.

At one point in the trailer, he even says "The world needs Superman", though it isn't made clear if he's talking to him or just to the rest of the team. In either case, it would seem he hasn't given up on Superman just yet.

If those aren't the answer, it could always be something more out of the box. Perhaps Batman eventually gets a read on Steppenwolf during an early encounter. Know he is also of alien origin, perhaps Batman looks to Superman's DNA as a way to even the odds. Steppenwolf's narration referred to the Kryptonian with some amount of reverence, and Superman's body could be the best way to defeat him.

Fans will ultimately find out what it all means when Justice League hits theatres on November 17.
