Long before Arrow and the rest of the Arrowverse television shows made DC Comics superheroes a staple of prime-time television, Smallville brought the adventures of Clark Kent to the small screen. In one of those adventures, the future Superman paid a visit to the future and that future is now.

On the 200th episode of Smallville entitled 'Homecoming', Clark Kent is transported to the future thanks to Brainiac 5's Legion of Super-Heroes ring and as one clever member of the DC Comics Reddit community pointed out, Clark visits October 15, 2017 -- this very week.

The episode originally aired on October 15, 2010 and sees Clark, who is deep in his feelings as he sees his cousin, Kara, and friend Oliver, both lauded as superheroes while his own efforts as the Blur are questioned as being possibly anti-helpful. Since Smallville High is hosting their five-year class reunion and realizing that Clark is considering simply giving up, Lois suggests they attend in an attempt to cheer him up.

Of course, that doesn't go quite as planned. The trip back to Smallville doesn't cheer either of them up, but Brainiac 5 appears in attempt to prevent Clark from becoming evil by giving into the darkness he's been harboring since the death of his father, Jonathan Kent. Brainiac 5 shows Clark the moment of Jonathan's death and tells Clark that his father chose his own fate. He then plans to show Clark the future, but when Clark thinks Lois is in danger, he grabs Brainiac 5's Legion ring and sends himself to the future.

Fans of the show know how it all came out: Clark ended up in October 15, 2017 and is in the right place at the right time to help his future self save both Metropolis and Lois. It, coupled with seeing just how devoted to him Lois is, is enough to convince Clark to put the past away so that he can become the hero he is destined to be.

Of course, the future has finally caught up with Smallville and it's not just Superman who is a major hero, at least on the big screen. While Smallville star Tom Welling has moved on to a different corner of the DC Universe on Lucifer, there is no shortage of superheroes in movies and on television these days, a legacy that even Brainiac 5 probably didn't see coming.
