DC Films' newest director is helping foster a friendly rivalry between the superheroes in the shared universe, hyping up next year's Shazam! movie.

Director David F. Sandberg posted a humorous video to social media featuring a pivotal confrontation between the former Captain Marvel and Batman, edited with footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The result is the Caped Crusader's worst nightmare. Take a look in the video below:

The animated clip in the video is from the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies movie, based on the comic book of the same name by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness. In it, Batman gets the best of Captain Marvel and manages to get him to turn into his human alter ego.

But after seeing the frail body of Billy Batson on the ground, Batman makes the mistake of going to check on him, only for him to summon the magic of the wizard Shazam in the form of a lightning bolt, striking Batman and transforming him back into Captain Marvel.

The footage then cuts to the scene in Batman v Superman in which Bruce Wayne awakens from his hellish nightmare, where Superman has turned evil and Parademons ravage the earth. Bruce is clearly shaken from his dream, with Sandberg having a good time at the Dark Knight's expense.

While it just seems like a funny video, who knows? Maybe Sandberg is teasing at Batman's inclusion in the film. After all, Ben Affleck's version of the character is almost akin to Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Though Batman hasn't shown up in every movie in the DC Comics cinematic universe, he's had a significant role in each movie. Bruce Wayne confronts Amanda Waller in the end of Suicide Squad, delivers the photo Lex Luthor stole as part of the framing device in Wonder Woman, and help brings the team together in Justice League.

While it seems unlikely that Affleck will go up against Zachary Levi and Asher Angel in the Shazam! movie, it would make sense. All we can do is hope.

Shazam! is scheduled to premiere in theaters on April 5, 2019.
