Wonder Woman impacted audiences everywhere when it debuted earlier this year - and fans are showing their appreciation in a unique way.

Patty Jenkins, who directed the DC Comics blockbuster, is currently in contention for TIME Magazine's Person of the Year award. At the time of this writing, Jenkins currently has 1% of the overall votes, which actually puts her in somewhat-noteworthy standing in the contest's voting. Also holding 1% of the vote are figures such as Margaret Atwood, Serena Williams, Jemele Hill, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski.

Even if Jenkins doesn't land the TIME cover, this is the latest instance of Jenkins being embraced by Wonder Woman fans. And according to the director, that sort of outpouring of love was not something that she initially expected.

"I went into the release of the movie assuming it would be, in best case, a mixed bag." Jenkins said earlier this year. "And I sort of braced myself for it, where I thought, well, 'Listen, you're doing a beloved superhero; it's always going to end up being at least 40%, oh you could have done, blah blah blah.' So, the support and positivity that the movie has received, and also just the people wanting to talk about what we wanted to talk about in the movie and not other things, has been stunning."

Thankfully, the reception to Wonder Woman is still being recognized in the months since its release. Jenkins - along with the film's star, Gal Gadot - recently won the National Board of Review's Spotlight Award. And Warner Bros. is currently planning a historic awards campaign for the film, with it being nominated in virtually every category.

"I certainly wasn't thinking about the Oscars." Jenkins said in September in response to the film's Oscar buzz. "It's just not something you consider when you make these kinds of movies. I did the best that I could, but you kind of assume you're not going to be considered for that kind of thing."

Wonder Woman is now available on Blu-Ray/DVD and digital. Wonder Woman 2 is set to be released on November 1st, 2019.
