Christian Bale Still Has Mixed Emotions About His Batman Role In 'The Dark Knight' Trilogy

Though moviegoers often dub The Dark Knight as one of the best comic book movies of all time, Christian Bale has "mixed emotions" about the trilogy.

The actor played Bruce Wayne for a trio of films before Ben Affleck took over for the DC Extended Universe connected the character with other DC Comics heroes. Though Bale's story seemed to have a beginning, middle, and end which satisfied fans, the actor is hesitant to share the feeling.

"Mixed emotions about it," Bale told Variety. "I'm always eternally grateful to [director] Chris [Nolan]. For instance, Rescue Dawn, Werner [Herzog] and I had been trying to put that together for a few years. American Psycho, Mary Harron and I had been trying to put that together for a few years. No one was interested. Why? Me. Suddenly everyone said, 'Yeah, alright. We'll go with him.' It did change everything. It was the first time I had done a film of that magnitude. That was a real learning curve for me. I wrestled with it for a long time. I still do on occasions. But I'm just learning, hey, accept the good things."

Fans of the trilogy who may have loved it a bit more than Bale will be happy to hear The Dark Knight trilogy is headed to re-release in the form of 4K Ultra HD for optimal home viewing.

Batman Begins released in June of 2005, before The Dark Knight in July of 2008 and The Dark Knight Rises in July of 2012. The middle of the three is ranked as the number one comic book movie of all time in the ComicBook.com movie database with an 89.09 composite score.
