To the dismay of some, the sequel to last year's highly successful Wonder Woman movie is still quite a ways away. But in the year-and-a-half or so until the film is released, fans can expect plenty of teases and updates, including the newest one from star Gal Gadot.
In a recent interview with EW, Gadot was asked about the upcoming sequel, which is set to be released in November of 2019. While she couldn't provide details about the film's plot, she hinted that there's a pretty significant number of stories to tell, now that Diana Prince's origin story is out of the way.
"Other than the wonderful work Lynda Carter did in the TV show, this character was never really told on the big screen." Gadot explained. "We just see her origin story. But there’s so much to explore with this character who has 75 years of legacy, there’s so much material and so many ways and I’m psyched about it."
Gadot's comments pretty closely echo those of director Patty Jenkins, who previously hinted at the uncharted territory that Wonder Woman 2 is able to be in.
"The greatest thing about making this movie was the fact that you're really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie." Jenkins said last August. "The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here's Wonder Woman, and what can she do?"
Ever since Wonder Woman first debuted in June of last year, fans have been buzzing with speculation about what the sequel will bring. Early rumors have suggested that the film will include appearances by iconic villains Cheetah and Circe, and that it could possibly have some sort of Cold War setting. As of now, it's just too early to tell, but fans can expect to hear more as the film's June 2018 production date gets closer.
Justice League is now in theaters; Aquaman arrives on December 21, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Wonder Woman 2 on November 1st, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020.
