'Black Lightning' Soundtrack Available Digitally

Two songs from the soundtrack to last night's Black Lightning series premiere are now available on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital music sites.

A two-track "single" featuring "Black Lightning" and "Power," a pair of songs that appeared in "The Resurrection," the Black Lightning pilot, is available from artist Godholly, who provided an easy link to stream it on Apple Music or Deezer, or to purchase to songs on iTunes.

The show's theme, titled "Black Lightning," has been prominently featured not only in the episode but in much of the promotional material for the show. It includes a police siren running through the song at one point likely a nod to the pilot's powerful cold open, in which Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is pulled over and harassed by police.

The scene, which was the first thing Akil came up with when he started developing the show, was not something he had to fight the network on, even if they did have a lot of conversations about it.

"There were discussions, because it was so intense, but it was never discussions where 'we don't want you do to this,'" Akil told ComicBook.com. "It was more like 'help us understand why, in the first episode, in the first few minutes…' And I felt it was important to talk about all of the things we were talking about."

Godholly, who recorded the title track with Cozmo and other tracks with Traxx F.D.R., appeared at the DC in D.C. black carpet premiere for the series and posted to his Instagram account that he will appear in an upcoming episode.

That is familiar territory to Warner Bros. Television, who regularly release music from Ashleigh Murray, Hayley Law, Asha Bromfield, and KJ Apa among others in a similar way -- one to three singles per week, followed by a full soundtrack at the end of the season -- for Riverdale. Music has been less of a significant presence in the second season than it was the first, although the feel of Black Lightning was shaped by its soundtrack even if the musicians themselves are not series regulars.

Black Lightning airs on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT following new episodes of The Flash on The CW.
