Barry Allen may seem like he has limitless energy to race around Central City fighting crime and metahumans gone rogue on The CW's The Flash, but it turns out that even speedsters get tired.

Series star Grant Gustin recently shared on his Instagram story that there are times "when Flash can't Flash," a point emphasized by his exhausted, sweaty appearance while in full Flash costume from filming on the show.

"Sometimes I don't wanna run anymore," Gustin said. "I'm so tired of running."

Gustin later followed up with a photo showing himself with his jackets zipped up incorrectly -- the outer jacket zipped into his hoodie -- further driving home that sometimes playing The Fastest Man Alive can be exhausting.

Today I zipped up like this without noticing. I’m as tired as I look.

While Gustin may be worn out from running as The Flash, it's also good news for fans of the Scarlet Speedster. During the show's midseason premiere on Tuesday, Barry Allen was convicted of murdering Clifford DeVoe/The Thinker (Neil Sandilands) and promptly sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prison isn't exactly a place where The Flash is likely to do much running and wearing himself out so a running, exhausted Gustin seems like a solid clue that fans will see The Flash outside the bars of his Iron Heights prison cell sometime before the end of the season.

However, before that happens, Team Flash is going to face some major challenges. In next week's "The Elongated Knight Rises," Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco Ramon/Vibe (Carlos Valdes) are kidnapped by Axel Walker/Trickster Jr. (Devon Graye) and without Barry to save them, a new hero will have to rise -- Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man (Hartley Sawyer). Dibny will step up to help his friends, complete with a suit that is an improvement over the jumpsuit he's been wearing for the past few episodes. It's also the first major opportunity Dibny has to redeem himself from of his tarnished reputation.

"It's nice that it's been a more complicated thing than like 'hey, you're not a bad guy,'" Sawyer said during a set visit last year. "Yeah, I'm not a bad guy, but it's taking him time to get back into that world of not being a scumbag PI guy he's been for years."

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
