If it's on the Internet, it has to be true, right? False, as proven again by the new rumors of Matt Reeves leaving The Batman.

After word started to spread across the Internet that Reeves was going to join the ranks of directors who have left DC Comics movie projects behind before they ever got off the ground, Reeves took to social media to debunk them himself. When a fan asked him to "say it ain't so," with a Batman gif, Reeves quoted the request in a tweet reading, "Uh... It ain't so!" with a few well chosen emojis.

Check out the tweet below.

While there is no production start date and, in fact, very few updates regarding Reeves' work on any Batman movies, the director did open up to ComicBook.com about his approach to the new films around the release of his War for the Planet of the Apes movie.

"Look, I'm just starting Batman because literally, [War for the Planet of the Apes], as I just said, we finished about a week ago and now we're publicizing it," Reeves said. "So, we haven't even begun on Batman. For me, what's always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It's about understanding emotionally, the way something is. I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and, so, I do really relate it to that kind of idea."

With things constantly shifting in the DC Extended Universe in the wake of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, it's possible Reeves' approach to the film can shift. It's also possible the film can arrive later than expected as films like Flashpoint might come along and softly hit the "reset" button on the progress made so far.

Up next for DC Films and Warner Bros. is Aquaman, which is set to hit theaters in December.
