Metal Gear Survive Still Slated To Release This Year

Ever since its official announcement last year, Metal Gear Survive has left kind of a mixed reaction amongst its community. Some fans were eager to see the series go on, but most weren't exactly thrilled with the idea of battling a horde of enemies, since that doesn't really work with the general Metal Gear logic.

Since its reveal, though, we haven't heard too much about the game, leaving us wondering just what its fate would be. Well, good news for those that still want it – it's still coming for release this year.

Konami recently posted its most recent financial results, and while it reported some good news from its new business plan (one involving less general game releases and more on licensing its franchises to pachinko), it did note that work is still going strong on Metal Gear Survive, and it should arrive over the next few months.

The company hasn't said whether it will have the game on hand at next month's E3 event, but it would seem like a missed opportunity if it didn't make it to some extent. It could very well wait for presentations later in the year at events likes GamesCom and Tokyo Game Show, in the hopes of turning around excitement for it. Response to the first debut trailer has been, well, let's just say "less than desirable" for the publisher.

During its report, the company reiterated what fans can expect from the game:

"In a struggle to stay alive on this harsh terrain filled with deadly creatures, soldiers who were previously on Motherbase now must work cooperatively in order to survive. Metal Gear Survive continues the pedigree of Metal Gear Solid V's highly praised gameplay design, with a unique blend of stealth and co-op play mechanics. Players can strategically manage massive threats with the help of four-player online cooperative play. New weaponry will also be introduced to combat charging creatures and lethal environments as well."

We'll have to see how the final game fares, but, yeah, there's a good chance that it'll continue to leave Konami's community quite divided.

Metal Gear Survive is slated to arrive later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
