League of Legends: Mechs vs Minions Board Game Now Available

Sometimes you don't want to play League of Legends the traditional way with a mouse, keyboard, and computer. Sometimes you don't even want to play League of Legends the way it's set up on Summoner's Rift. Instead, why don't you head to the Riot Store and pick up Mechs vs Minions, the League of Legends board game!?

Game night is about to get a lot more exciting. According to Riot Games, "Mechs vs Minions is a fully cooperative tabletop game for 2-4 players. Using programmatic movement from a shared draft, teammates will grow in power as they face off against armies of marauding minions."

Forget what Riot has to say about their own game, let's listen to someone who's played the game a lot and is a self-professed geek.

"As a huge board game geek, I cannot recommend this game enough," said James Bates, WWG's League of Legends Writer and Analyst. "I know what you board gamers are thinking, because I was thinking the same thing too. 'How could a board game made by a video game company be good?' Well, it is. I first got to play it when I went to Worlds last year, and I fell in love instantly to the point where I actually went and bought a copy off a couple who had bought the last one at a ridiculous markup. The mechanics of the game are amusing as all hell, and while it hasn't really unseated Catan (Or Battlestar Galactica...) as my board game of choice, it's definitely been a huge part of my game night rotation ever since. The game just lends itself so well to amusing game states, and the gameplay even vaguely resembles that of League itself. I often find myself taking a large number of supportive augments that allow me to both buff the team's ability to acquire resources, as well as augments that give me excellent control over my character's movement so that I can be the best bomb carrier the world has ever seen. It's a silly premise that is executed on superbly, and for that reason, I can't recommend it enough."
