It's hard to believe that we've been playing Blizzard's Overwatch for just about a year now. It seemed just like yesterday that we first started mowing down opponents with Bastion, or showing people what we could do with D.Va. But the publisher is looking to celebrate its best-selling series in a big way.

It has announced that it will be hosting a special new event that will begin next week, on May 23rd. Although specific details in regards to what will be included in the event haven't been revealed yet, there should be a number of special game modes to take advantage of, along with reskinned maps – just like previous events in the game have offered.

More details about the event are set to be revealed next week, and we'll have all the information you need.

You can check out a special anniversary trailer below!

On top of that, however, Blizzard has also confirmed that Overwatch will get another free weekend, where all players – even those that don't own the game – can participate. The game will be available to download starting on May 26th and run through May 29th, and that'll be across the board, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Finally, the company has confirmed that it will re-release the game as a Game of the Year Edition. Along with including the base game, players will also get access to a number of other goodies, including the following:

Overwatch - 10 Bonus Loot Boxes

Enjoy 10 bonus Loot Boxes which each contain random items that can be used to customize the appearance of your heroes and personalize them. Loot Boxes may include Skins, Emotes, Victory Poses, Voice Lines, Sprays, and Highlight Intros, as well as Credits you can use to acquire many different customization options.

Overwatch - Hero Skins

Pay homage to the original Overwatch strike force by wearing the vintage Blackwatch Reyes or Strike-Commander Morrison skins. Explore other heroes' origins with Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Pharah, and even Slipstream Tracer!

Heroes of the Storm - Tracer Hero

Jump into the Nexus with Tracer and surprise your enemies in the blink of an eye.

World of Warcraft - Baby Winston Pet

Adorably cuddly and highly intellectual, the Baby Winston pet will be at your side as you fight your way through Azeroth.

Diablo III - Mercy's Wings

Slay demonic forces throughout the High Heavens and Burning Hells as you don Mercy's wings. All of Sanctuary will know of your allegiance to Overwatch!

StarCraft II In-game Portraits and a Hearthstone Card Back!

With portraits of Tracer, Reaper, Pharah, Winston, Bastion, and Soldier: 76, you're sure to become a champion of the Koprulu Sector. You can also battle it out in Hearthstone with an Overwatch-themed card back fit for a hero!

The re-release should happen on May 23rd, and there's no word yet if those who already own the game will get access to these goods.

Overwatch is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
