Need for Speed Payback Revealed: Trailer, Release Date, Story

Electronic Arts has finally lifted the veil on the latest entry in the iconic Need for Speed series. Rev your engines and get ready to shift into high gear when Need for Speed Payback hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10. Check out the reveal trailer above.

We're getting some serious Fast and the Furious vibes from the trailer here. It looks like EA is going all-in on the story mode this time around, which is fine with us as long as it doesn't get in the way of what matters most: really, really fast racing with really, really cool cars. The most exciting parts of that trailer, for me at least, were the sounds of engines revving.

"Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games," said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer. "We're still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we're bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience. From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today."

Again -- we're fine with all of the story fluff as long as it doesn't get in the way of gameplay. In the underworld of Fortune Valley, we'll take control of three unique characters as they unravel the violent web spun by "The House," an infamous cartel that rules the city's casinos, criminals, and cops.

"They will take on a variety of challenges and events as Tyler, the Racer; Mac, the Showman; and Jess, the Wheelman to earn the respect of the underground. Featuring the deepest customization from the series, players can truly craft a personalized and unique ride, or spend hours finding and tuning an abandoned derelict into a supercar. They can then push their cars to the limit and raise the stakes by betting on their own performance, where they can either multiply their winnings or risk losing it all."

Need for Speed Payback will hit consoles and PC on November 10, but EA Access and Origin Access members will be able to play for up to 10 hours starting November 2. For anyone willing to dish out the cash for Need for Speed Payback Deluxe Edition, the full game will unlock three days early on November 7.
