Pokemon Sun and Moon are getting sequels. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon will be Nintendo 3DS games that feature an "alternate" storyline from Pokemon Sun and Moon. Set in the Alolan region, the new games will feature Pokemon "not seen" in the original games, including what appears to be versions of Solgaleo and Lunala fused with the third Legendary Pokemon Solgaleo.

A press release confirmed that the game would have new additions to the story and new features, but said that further features would be made available later this year.

Not much else was revealed about the new game, although Togademaru, Mimikyu, and Lycanroc were all featured in the trailer, spurring speculation that they'll get alternate formes. The name of the games also implies that the Ultra Beasts will have a larger role in this game than in Pokemon Sun and Moon, where they were largely used as post game content.

Also seen in the trailer was a look at a large colony of Pikachu, as well as some sort of Pikachu trailer.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is likely to disappoint fans, as many were hoping that the next Pokemon game would be released for the Nintendo Switch. Those rumors were started and spurred along by sites such at Eurogamer, which strongly stood by the story for months. Sadly for them, Game Freak stuck to its proven track record and refused to switch consoles in the middle of a generation of Pokemon games.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be released on November 17th.
