The Nintendo Switch Version Of FIFA Could Be Somewhat Condensed

A lot of soccer excitement made its way around the Internet earlier this morning when Electronic Arts debuted the first trailer of FIFA 18, which is due for release later this year. The game will get some major presence at the company's EA Play event this weekend in Los Angeles, along with the Nintendo Switch soccer release EA Sports FIFA.

But we've seen more evidence that the Switch version of the game will be quite different than the others, as some fine print has appeared in the trailer indicating that its particular version won't be getting all of the features that FIFA 18 will.

The trailer, which we've included above, shows plenty of fast-paced action on the field, but when you get to the end, you may notice the fine print that appears. We caught a glimpse of it, and it reads as follows:

"Frostbite Game Engine Technology and The Journey: Hunter Returns mode are available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms only. Not all features available on all platforms."

So what's this mean? It sounds like the Nintendo Switch version of the game is going to be a bit more limited, and may actually be based on an earlier build from the series. It won't likely include The Journey, and it doesn't sound like it'll work well with Frostbite technology either. And we can't help but think what other features could be missing, like the possibility of online play or having as many teams as FIFA 18 could possess.

We'll probably know more once this weekend rolls around, as EA is likely to make EA Sports FIFA part of its showcase during its presentation on Saturday afternoon. Hopefully it'll highlight some Switch-exclusive features that will make that version worthwhile, especially since it may be missing so much from the general build of FIFA 18.

We'll let you know all the details as we get them from this Saturday's event, and, hopefully, Switch owners will still have a good soccer game to enjoy. We just can't help but think…why not make it even across the board?

FIFA 18 arrives on September 29th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The Nintendo Switch release has not yet been dated.
