Destiny 2 On Xbox One X Runs At 30fps, Won’t Have An Advantage Over PS4 Pro Version

Want to play Destiny 2 at something above 30fps on your TV? Well, that's too bad! The game will have an uncapped framerate on PC, but it will be strictly 30fps on consoles – all consoles. Last month, Bungie revealed Destiny 2 is just too much game to run at 60 frames on PlayStation 4 Pro:

"Destiny 2 is 30 on the consoles. The PlayStation 4 Pro is super-powerful, but it couldn't run our game at 60fps. Our game's this rich physics simulation, with collision and players, networking etc. It wouldn't run - not enough horsepower there yet."

Okay, if Bungie says PS4 Pro can't handle Destiny 2 as 60fps, I believe them, but what about the recently unveiled Xbox One X? Microsoft boasts Xbox One X is in a league above the PS4 Pro in terms of power, so surely it can do better than 30fps? Maybe it could, but it's not happening. During an interview on Geoff Kieghley's YouTube Live @ E3 show, Destiny director Luke Smith broke the news Xbox One X won't be getting a framerate advantage…

"Nope, it's 30 frames per second on all consoles. On all systems. But on PC it will be uncapped, go nuts. Whatever your machine can handle."

This has led to all sorts of speculation that Sony may be contractually forcing Activision and Bungie to deliver the same framerate on all consoles. Sony and Activision are very close, and PlayStation owners will be getting all sorts of other Destiny 2 exclusive goodies, so it wouldn't be that far-fetched.

Neither Sony not Activision have commented on the speculation, but Xbox head Phil Spencer certainly seems to think some money has exchanged hands.

"Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever built, and this fall it will be the most powerful console in the market. There's nothing technically that would keep anything [console games makers] from making Xbox One X the very best version of every one of their games. I don't know what deals get written. I've been pretty open about, I'm not a fan of doing deals that hold back specific pieces of content from other platforms."
