Konami's Metal Gear Survive was scheduled to be released sometime this year, but it looks like the game is going to be taking a bit longer to polish as it's release date has been pushed back by a few months.

The news of the delay came from Konami representatives who spoke about the game's progress during E3. A spin-off from the typical Metal Gear games, Metal Gear Survive takes the series in a much different direction as it incorporates zombies into the mix to create a survival game for consoles and PC. It seems like an interesting idea for the games, but when it was first announced in 2016, some critics of the upcoming game were a bit iffy on whether or not the concept would work well.

As far as fitting into the story of the rest of the series, Metal Gear Survive will take place in an alternate timeline that takes place after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. It's also the first game in the series that won't be affiliated with Hideo Kojima since his departure from Konami. Kojima has been asked before if he had anything to do with Metal Gear Survive, but he responded that he did not, saying that including zombies into the mode wasn't really something that fit within his vision for the series.

A robust story mode will ship with the spin-off as well as an opportunity for some cooperative multiplayer action. Along with Konami's announcement that they'd be delaying the game for a bit, they've also given fans the chance to test out the game at E3.

The news that Metal Gear Survive will be pushed back comes just a month after Konami said that they thought they'd still be on track with the game's projected 2017 release. Konami published their earnings reports and gave an idea of the timeframes for a couple of their projects, one of which originally stated that Metal Gear Survive would be out within a couple of months.

Metal Gear Survive is expected to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2018.
