Nintendo just announced that no one saw coming; a game that no one could have predicted. Say hello to Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido. This is a brand new action puzzle game where (I'm not kidding) eat tons of sushi, stack tons of plates, and then hurl those plates at your opponent to do massive damage. Sound crazy? It is crazy. Check out the trailer above.

During the Nintendo Treehouse E3 livestream they explained the story, but it was completely ridiculous and nonsensical. We mean that in the best possible way, by the way. It's crazy and nonsensical in the same way that a game like WaroWare or Rhythm Heaven can be, though this is coming to us from indiezero, the studio behind games like NES Remix and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. Those are games that we love, so we have faith that Sushi Striker will be a lot of silly fun.

You'll see from the video that gameplay is an interesting mix between match-color puzzle games and action. You'll chain together plates of sushi depending on the color of the plate beneath them. As plates of sushi go by on the conveyor belts in front of you and your opponent, you'll trace your stylus through plates of the same color to chain them together and drag them back to your table to stack, and eventually throw, the plates. You and your opponent will have three conveyor belts each, with a shared belt in the center of the stage.

It looks like colorful good fun. We were hoping very much for an imminent release, but unfortunately this game is still very much in development. They didn't give us any concrete launch window, but told us to look forward to Sushi Striker some time in 2018. We'll keep you updated with the details as we receive them.
