Techland’s Dying Light Will Receive Free DLC For The Next Year

You'd think with the popularity of its first-person open-world adventure Dying Light over the last couple of years, the developers at Techland would have announced a sequel by now. Well, that may happen down the road, but, for the moment, the team has confirmed that it's going in a different direction – it intends to support the original Dying Light with additional downloadable content over the next year. Better still, it'll be free.

It made note that nearly 500,000 people are still playing the game on a weekly basis, despite its dated release, and, as a result, it's decided to move forward with its new DLC plan, which will see at least 10 new packs released over the next year. Again, on the house.

"Not a single day passes without requests for new weapons, outfits and quests," said Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka. "In the face of such enthusiasm and engagement, we cannot keep quiet. Today I'm happy to announce Techland's continued support for Dying Light. Original content is already in the works and our fans can expect to face new challenging enemies, master new gameplay mechanics, solve more Harran mysteries, and even explore never-seen-before locations."

In addition, the team will also begin setting up a community-events schedule, with even more set up to happen than ever before – four events occurring every quarter from hereon in.

This is the biggest move for the game since the release of The Following expansion, which dropped a while back and provided a new vehicle and other missions to complete over the course of the game.

Techland made it clear that the content would be free across the board, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It hasn't set up a schedule as far as when to expect the first piece of content, but it should arrive at the end of summer – just in time for us to beat down those end-of-summer blues with a pipe or another weapon of choice.

We'll get Dying Light 2 someday, maybe even next year at E3 2018. For now, though, we're looking forward to seeing what the original game still has to offer!
