Pokemon Go Update Spurs Speculation on New Shiny Pokemon

Pokemon Go
's Shiny Detectives are at it again, so put on your tin foil caps. Earlier this week, the game pushed out a number of subtle tweaks in preparation for the game's upcoming update. Included in those changes were some very minor changes to the models for Pikachu, Raichu, and Gastly.

Pikachu and Raichu's bottom halves are both a bit more orange, while Gastly's eyes changed from white to a very, very light blue.

Usually, this wouldn't be a sign of anything, but some Pokemon Go players are convinced that more Shiny Pokemon are on the way. Similar changes were observed to the models for Magikarp and Gyarados shortly before Shiny versions of those Pokemon were introduced in March.

A French video game site also reported that Niantic confirmed more Shiny Pokemon would be added later this year at E3. While that site is a well-trafficked and legit news site, no other site has reported any new comments about Niantic's supposed "Shiny" comments.

It should also be noted that, at least according to some Reddit detectives, a model for a Shiny Pikachu's server has been in Pokemon Go's code for several months. (We haven't been able to corroborate the alleged Shiny Pikachu independently, so take that tidbit with a grain of salt.)

However, as of this morning, there's no hard evidence that more Shiny Pokemon on the way. Players with the new update haven't spotted any new Pokemon models in the code, although that could always change at a moment's notice.

If more Shiny Pokemon were to be added, players should probably keep an eye on Pokemon Go Fest next month. That seems like an easy reward to make available to players that could then be "released" worldwide after the event is complete.
